PHILADELPHIA — Rep. Trent Franks had a simple question for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell during a private GOP meeting here Wednesday: Would he take up anti-abortion legislation the House passed? McConnell shot back that it would never get through the Senate because Democrats aren’t “pro-life” and have the votes to stop it.

So why don’t you just change the rules? Rep. Bruce Poliquin demanded moments later. McConnell dodged, suggesting it's not going to happen.

Congressional Republicans came here for a private retreat this week hoping to get on the same page on plans to repeal Obamacare and overhaul the tax code. But age-old tensions between the fast-moving House and plodding Senate percolated just hours into their three-day gathering.

You want to kill the filibuster, that's fine, but once it's gone, it's gone forever. If the dems get into a scenario where they control all houses, then our side will be powerless.

And of course, it's just a matter of time before that happens again.

True, but I think that ship already has sailed.  If the GOP doesn't do it this time, the Dems will do it when it is advantageous to them.  They've already proven that.

Unfortunately the GOP will have to can McConnell before he stunts the momentum this administration is trying to gin up to get some real reforms going.

So what. The dems never hold back anyway to get what they want.

Thats one of the things I pointed out before the election. In 2012. Mitch has a long record of actually legislating to benefit Democrats. If the American people won't man up and vote him out, Trump's congress better bench him.

Does it matter? They roll over even when they are in power. Remember why the GOP lost their ass in '06? It's because the base sat at home because Frist and the pedophile were worthless.

If not for the fact that Trump named his wife to a cabinet post McConnell might just consider switching sides formally!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

I wish he would switch formally. then his supporters would have to admit their liberalism to keep voting for him instead of lying about it every election.

McConnell has a machine out here that puts some of what I saw back in Cook County Chicago to shame.

It wouldn't matter what party he self-identified with.

He is Big Government Statism - and plays all kinds of games to come home here and pretend he's a Conservative when he is more liberal than some of the Democrats that run on the ticket out here.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775
