When I was five/six, we had Fig trees.  Mom would pay me 5 cents for every bucket I filled.  I figured out if I put some of hers already in a filled bucket, while she was on the other side of the trees with another bucket, my bucket would fill up faster.  It didn't dawn on me I was a thief to get more of those nickels.  I have since repented for stolen nickels.

I'd never take any to fill my own bucket - don't think that ever crossed my mind - though in raspberry season I wasn't above eating a handful or two of from someone else's bucket.

Since we've been supporting their citizens all these years, the least they can do is pay for the wall.   I think the idea of a tax on all money sent back to Mexico is a great idea.  That would go a long way towards paying for it.

Since most of those illegals work for cash only and, therefore, don't pay US income taxes.... that is an excellent idea.  Not sure how it could be implemented, though.... since most of the illegals are completely off the US radar.

If I were Trump, I would immediately start building that wall and start emptying out our prisons of Mexican criminals -- send them back to where they came ... all courtesy of the Red, White and Blue!

Sending them back before the wall is built would be counter-productive.  They would just sneak back in, and perhaps commit yet more crimes and mayhem.  Put them in chains and force them to work ON  building the wall.  That would be one way to fulfill that 'make Mexico pay for the wall' promise.

I am not so sure that I agree that most illegals are off the radar; some are sitting in our prisons or jails, some are using our hospitals and other medical facilities, some are collecting food stamps, some have their kids in our schools, some have bank accounts or credit cards and some are renting from people who look the other way.  Take away the perks and many will self-deport. We should have absolutely no problems unloading illegals from our penal system and sending them back over the border; that's for starters.

Why? I'm just pointing out that Trump has embraced the big lie style of politics and his supporters are fine with it, they cheer his lies. Heck someone even wrote a column saying so. Integrity has no home with them.

It's really tough to judge what the hell Trump is doing sometimes because it's pretty clear that what he says is often part of a negotiating posture -- it's what he did in business, and he's going to do it as President.  Stake out a hard-line position, and end up somewhere better than you would have if you'd be more moderate at the start.  It may even work in some cases.

That's what people just don't get.

IMO Trump probably wanted the wall but didn't like that he had to live up to the "make Mexico pay for it" deal.


My theory is that Trump will huff and puff about making Mexico pay for the wall, and Mexico will continue to say no, and then Trump will be able to say "well I tried" and go back to normal relations with Mexico.

51% of Mexico's imports come from the US, much of that is refined gasoline. I think it would be a good idea for Mexico to start refining their own gas instead of paying Americans to do it for them. Billions in savings.

I was speaking primarily to the 'tax the money they send back to Mexico' issue.  For those illegals that do have bank accounts and do conduct business here in America other than on a strictly cash-basis.... yes....taxing anything they send to Mexico could probably be accomplished.  Is there a precedent for that, btw?  If so, I have never heard of it.  Still... it's an idea worthy of consideration.
