Trump says he'll defer to Mattis and Pompeo on waterboarding

By Nolan D. McCaskill

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that waterboarding works, although he suggested he would defer to his Cabinet secretaries on whether to deploy the controversial interrogation technique.

“Do I feel it works? Absolutely, I feel it works,” Trump told ABC News’ David Muir in an excerpt of an interview that will broadcast Wednesday evening.

Trump said he has asked the “people at the highest level of intelligence” within the past 24 hours if waterboarding and other forms of torture work. “And the answer was yes, absolutely,” Trump recalled.

I am in favor of extreme interrogation. I question those in power, who say it does not work.

bin Laden was tracked down using information gained by such methods.

And besides that, the only "harm" with waterboarding is mental. Psychological, fear.  It does NOT physically harm the subject of the interrogation.

It is NOT like pulling their finger nails out, burning them, shooting them, cutting them etc.

I seem to remember a incident from WW ll. When German saboteurs , few in number, landed via sub in Fl and NY.

Likely actually unable to inflict any real damage...... within a few weeks FDR tried... in secret and executed 6 of the eight.

And yes... real torture was part of it. Something about tied naked , sitting upon a steam heating radiator.... if memory serves correct.

I have no problem with any extraction technique upon moslem attackers.
Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning, they want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters.

No one else would have a problem either if we could convince them that Islam has been at war with humanity.  To me, that is the problem.

Very smart move on his part. Trump should frankly defer to his much smarter cabinet on a lot of other issues as well.

I'm in favor of only those with a need to know having any idea as to methods!

We kept a lot of secrets from WWII, secret for the legally mandated 50 years.

(*not surprisingly, WWII was the last time the US won a major conflict, that stayed won. Since WWII we have been too queasy about killing enough civilians, demanding unconditional surrender, and staying to occupy. The public is too naïve to do otherwise than demand early cessation and withdrawal. And the public is too naïve to take the necessary action, like interrogation, nuclear, etc.)
