My second 328 was an automatic (the missus was having one of her periodic attempts to learn to drive and though it'd be easier - it wasn't) and I HATED it. Zero responsiveness compared to the previous one (a 325) and it wallowed like an elephant.
Went back to manual with the next one and the difference ... didn't stop smiling for the first couple weeks.

I've found them all to be relatively unresponsive. You have to give the order to accelerate and wait for the engine room to respond.

The import costs are already ridiculous for these brands.  But I suppose it's only fitting that Trump give the Bavarians a taste of fascist economics.

I always figured AMG was their attempt to compete with the M Series.   But, I can't say for sure, as I've never driven an AMG Benz.

My "beast" was not a children's toy, @Frank Cannon   :laugh:

Cruising at 75 mph...in 3rd while she begs for more....   sigh     :smokin:


OTOH....once there is even an inch of snow covering the asphalt...they were worthless POS.  And I grew up in Buffalo, NY, and know how to drive in any conditions.

My current Volvo is a Polestar which is supposed to be what they use to rival the M or AMG series but I can tell you, all it does is get it up to the standard 3 or E class power. They make those cars so heavy and solid, their tuning just makes it reasonable. It does drive nice however.

Got passed like I was standing still while I was on the A6 in my Z3 by an SLS 55 Gullwing.  Almost a mile down the road in the distance and I could still hear it like it was sitting next to me.

I fully agree, although I don't miss getting out to lock in the front hubs. But considering that there are cars with lane drift warnings, automatic braking (I don't even like anti-lock), self parking, etc, we're getting farther away, not closer.

Won't be long before you have to have an endorsement to drive 'manual' vehicles (and I'm not talking about the transmission).

I've never understood the German engineering fetish.


What's funny is my friend drives old Mercedes and Benz cars, nearly all pre-1970 and he agrees 100% with me. He likes the cars, but German engineering is way overrated.
