Miss Liberty has been featured on United States coins ever since the 1700s.

She has worn headdresses, caps, and crowns.
She has worn flowing gowns, tight blouses, and even no upper body clothing at all.
She has been standing, walking, and sitting.
She has held shields.
Her hair has been let down and pulled up in braids.
She has even donned Native American headwear.

Those early ones were not modeled on Charlotte Beysser Bartholdi, mother of French sculptor Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi, model for the face of the Statue of Liberty.

Some broad might be on pre 1876 coins, but it ain't "Lady Liberty". That is a pretty well defined thing. I believe you are mistaking Libertas for Lady Liberty.

Man, you folks will argue over anything, won't you?  The pictorial representation of Liberty has varied quite a bit over the centuries.  Why not have more variations?  Liberty is a concept that applies to all--having the personification of that concept look (at varying times) like all of us seems reasonable.
My political philosophy:

1) I'm not bothering anybody.
2) It's none of your business.
3) Leave me alone!

Then it's high time we portray Liberty as a man.

Well I -do- have a problem with it.

Fishrrman's credo:
Reality is what it is. It is not what we believe it to be.

It's an attempt to rewrite history into something that it was not.

I prefer history "as it was" -- the bad along with the good.

So long as it reflects reality.

This is Lady Liberty:

Didn't the French used to draw Lady Liberty half topless?
“The way I see it, every time a man gets up in the morning he starts his life over. Sure, the bills are there to pay, and the job is there to do, but you don't have to stay in a pattern. You can always start over, saddle a fresh horse and take another trail.” ― Louis L'Amour

Michigan shows a nipple at the Russel Alger memorial fountain in Detroit. Notice the feathers in her hair.

For the horrible racism of America throughout history we  sure seemed to use imagery of other races to represent ourselves with great dignity over the ages.

In this revolutionary era political cartoon America is portrayed as an American Indian woman victimized by the British.

Prime Minister Lord North, author of the Boston Port Bill, forces the ”Intolerable Acts,” or tea, down the throat of America, a vulnerable Indian woman whose arms are restrained by Lord Chief Justice Mansfield, while Lord Sandwich, a notorious womanizer, pins down her feet and peers up her skirt. Behind them, Mother Britannia weeps helplessly. This British cartoon was quickly copied and distributed by Paul Revere.

Looks like Cultural Appropriation to me....

I'm always happy to see people here are adults.

I can't want to see what a certain other site says. They may need some safety pins. Wait until they find out Bartholdi's earliest sketches of Liberty were based on Egyptian statues.

@AbaraXas

I just took a look.

"What an ugly woman"
"Mooch got a coin'
"The Wookie One Hundred"
"Omg, it has Bitchy Resting Face!"  (Genius means "resting bitch face").

From the New Colossus by Emma Lazarus
"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Personally, I think the new coin is an elegant design.  I'm sure those that follow will be also.
