HE DID IT: Mexico Comes to Table, Tells Trump They’ll Discuss the Wall

Every ludicrous doomsday theory liberals spouted about President-elect Donald Trump prior to his election in November has begun to unravel, including the one about him potentially damaging America’s relationship with our neighbors.

As an example, consider what Mexico’s new foreign relations secretary Luis Videgaray said this week. “(He) said Tuesday his country isn’t just willing to negotiate changes to the North American Free Trade Agreement, it wants to start talks as soon as possible,” the Associated Press reported.

And here was the kicker: “He (also) said Mexico is willing to negotiate over Trump’s plan to build a border wall.”

Sounds like a lot of meaningless political BS.   Throwing around buzzwords like "negotiations" "constructive working relationship" doesn't mean there will be an agreement to build Trump's famous wall.  I look for talks to break down as soon as they are started.

A bit too much unwarranted optimism here.

To be honest, I'd feel better about the prospects for a meaningful border security plan if Mexico stayed the hell out of it and just continued to bray from their side.

The magic orangutan will announce a deal and his followers will hoot and screech their approval. Meanwhile Mexico will deny there is a deal and any media reporting on it will be called fake news.

The Mexican peso is in free-fall, @skeeter.

They're very nervous.   And for good reason.

The Mexican citizen has had a taste of real, meaningful employment due to the efforts of the globalists.

Daddy Trump opens his mouth....corporations blink.  Suddenly now, they want preferential status in detailed trade agreements and are willing to discuss the building of the wall.

If they're not careful, they'll have a revolution on their hands.    There has to be a Populist in Mexico someplace, right?

That can go either way though - illegal immigration has always been the pressure relief valve for the Mexican oligarchy. Cutting that off can mean social upheaval just as quickly.

Not that I give a crap, the oligarchs deserve whatever the pueblos indigenas can dish out. I'm just tired of them coming here.

Be careful what you wish for there @DCPatriot

The next revolution in Mexico will be sponsored by Putin and financed by the red Chinese and will make the Bolsheviks seem like cute puppies. The consequences will be catastrophic for most everyone in this hemisphere, including US, wall or not.

Thats another argument in favor of just building the damn wall and screw what Mexico wants.

I don't 'see' that @corbe.....China or Russia getting involved.

Maybe if Hillary had won, but no way-Jose, under a Trump Regime.

The Soviets pushed Reagan in Angola, Poland, Afghanistan and Nicaragua with mixed results. Putin would not hesitate to destabilize our southern border even more so than it already is.   I just haven't bought into Trump's abilities to be the statesman that RWR was.  We'll see very soon if he will listen to the prudent advise of his cabinet officials or willy-nilly all over the place as some of us here believe he has done for 2 years.

Then we'd better be the ones in charge of the Revolution,  because there is going to be one sooner or later.

Building the wall and re-negotiating NAFTA all have to go through Congress; the House for the money and the Senate for the treaty.  It'll be interesting.

We need to stave off our own Revolution that's been brewing for awhile and things don't seem to be settling down.

Trump can announce any deal he wants, but it has to go through congressional approval. What is going on in our country right now is disgusting.  The CNN news reporter during Trump's press conference was out of line.  We have people assaulting each other because of their support of the president elect, we had a candidate demanding a recount for no reason, we have people pushing to change the electoral college, we have people interrupting Senate hearings, we have groups threatening to block and wreak havoc on the inauguration, we have Putin hacking the election and supposedly there is fake news about Trump/Putin, but if true would be very concerning and we have members of the Senate going full boar against our President-elect. Never in my life have I seen such a frenzy surrounding an election and an incoming president. The way things look to me is, either the left is in a panic because they fear Trump will indeed drain the swamp and feeding into disgruntled LIV to stop him, or Trump is even more corrupt and powerful than anyone ever dreamed.

That's exactly what I expect to happen.

Amazing that the people who get in our face and demand we wait until Trump has been in office for a year or more before we make any "judgment" about him are the first ones to jump up and scream "promise fulfilled!" when the guy has not even taken office yet.

Hypocrisy on a grand scale.

But that is part and parcel of what comes out of mass movements within cults of personality.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775
