80 people detained, 2 arrested in Huntington Beach flash mob robbery

HUNTINGTON BEACH – About 80 people were detained and two men were arrested in a flash mob style robbery late Saturday night in Huntington Beach, police said.

Huntington Beach police received a call from a witness 11:08 p.m. regarding a strong-arm robbery occurring at the 7-Eleven at 706 Pacific Coast Highway, Officer Jennifer Marlatt said.

The witness said a very large group went into the store stealing items while others in the group pushed and shoved the clerk, she said.

Marcos Rodriguez, an employee in 7-Eleven’s asset protection department, said Sunday only one worker was on duty when 16 people entered the store. Some of them made off with at least $1,000 in merchandise but didn’t take any cash, he said.

The worker was not injured and the store remained closed until 1:35 a.m. Sunday.

The group then got onto a private party bus that drove north on Pacific Coast Highway. Officers stopped the bus a short distance away, Marlatt said.

There were about 80 people on the bus, requiring Huntington Beach police to request assistance from Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Seal Beach and Laguna Beach police departments, she said.

Seven loaded handguns were recovered on the bus. During the investigation, officers arrested Isiah Bryant, 21, of Los Angeles and Wynzel Worthan, 18, of Compton on suspicion of robbery and conspiracy. They were booked into Huntington Beach Jail.

All other passengers on the bus were interviewed and released. The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are possible, Marlatt said.

The bus, owned by LPB Inc. based in Whittier, was boarded by the group in Nickerson Gardens, a public housing complex in Watts, said Marlatt.

A man who answered the phone at LPB Inc. on Sunday and declined to give his name said the bus had been sold, but he could not say to whom.

LPB Inc. was denied a Transportation Charter Class B Certificate in December 2014, according to the California Public Utilities Commission.

Big local story for "lily white" Orange County coastal areas.

*Like a field trip, to peaceful Orange County. Everybody get on the bus.

Thugs from Watts visit this seaside resort locale, assault the store clerk, steal merchandise, but get caught. Seven guns on the bus.

Two arrested due to identification by victim clerk, that they assaulted. More arrests may follow pending PD review of more video.

Local question: Do we get rid of them by letting them off easy, or do we encourage them to come back for lax standards.

There are said to be 80 on a bus with 50 capacity. There were police from 3-4 surrounding cities responding to handle that many detainees.

They are sitting on the curb across the street from the ocean, in front of $3 million houses. This sort of thing is rare, in areas where people have moved to, to avoid stuff like this.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KABC) --
Two men have been arrested after the assault of a 7-Eleven clerk that occurred Saturday night when a crowd of unruly party bus passengers stormed the Huntington Beach convenience store and stole several items, authorities said.

According to the clerk, who gave his name only as Mohammad, the incident began about 11 p.m. when the bus pulled into the 7-Eleven parking lot in the 700 block of Pacific Coast Highway.

Some 30 people rushed into the store, Mohammad recalled, and began looting beer, candy and chips. The clerk said he asked the individuals to pay for the items but gave up when he realized the request was futile.

"They just pushed and shoved him around as he was trying to stop them from stealing items from the store," said Officer Jennifer Marlatt, spokeswoman for the Huntington Beach Police Department.

After a few minutes, the mob re-boarded the bus and left the scene, Mohammad said.

A strong-arm robbery was reported at 11:08 p.m., according to police, who said the 7-Eleven employee was assaulted but not injured.

A police helicopter subsequently spotted the bus, which was pulled over with some 80 people inside, police said. The vehicle was designed for a capacity of 50.

Officers from the police departments of Newport Beach, Seal Beach, Costa Mesa, Westminster and Laguna Beach assisted as the occupants were all ordered out of the vehicle and detained.

Seven loaded handguns were seized after being found inside the bus, authorities said, adding that none were used in the robbery.

Through the use of surveillance video, the clerk identified the two men who allegedly assaulted him, investigators said. Wynzel Worthan, 18, of Compton, and Isiah Bryant, 21, of Los Angeles, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery.

Police took the names of the other occupants of the bus and released them from custody.

Party bus? Looking at the folks they detained, it looks like the prison bus to Corcoran.

"lily white" Orange County coastal areas.?
Not a description that has been fitting for quite some time, also it has been a frequent situation where the low life scum of L.A. drive down to more affluent areas to rob and pilfer.
