Lots of blacks fled racism in the south only to find a slightly different species of it here in the north.
Gun control in Michigan got its start in the 1920s when a black Dr named Ossian Sweet killed a man who was part of a mob trying to force Sweet out of "their" neighborhood. Sweet was acquitted and within weeks legislation supporting gun control started showing up in Lansing. It led to things like local "Gun boards" who were groups of people who determined who was or wasn't allowed to have guns.
Fortunately these days our state constitution is pretty clear on this one and will only lead to a more gun friendly state.
@Cripplecreek Sounds like a pretty good state to live in, IMO. At least Sweet was acquitted for killing those mob fools.
I get tired of the preaching about how racist we are in the South. A couple of years ago I was in a doctor's office, waiting for my appointment, and an old guy got into an argument with a black woman. It was a large room and I don't know what the initial problem was, but he got really loud, and in his
New York accent spat out, "Why don't you go back to Africa where you came from?' Man, that office went silent. A couple of nurses came out and defused the situation. The black woman came back to her seat, which was across from mine; we happened to catch each other's eye and we both burst out laughing.
