Quote
Even the best things come to an end. After enjoying a quarter of a century of writing this column for Creators Syndicate, I have decided to stop. Age 86 is well past the usual retirement age, so the question is not why I am quitting, but why I kept at it so long.

Well done Sir.  Thank you and enjoy your remaining time.

Indeed!  And I wonder how long his bud Walter Williams will continue.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

This is a tough one. I've been a huge Thomas Sowell fan for forty years since I saw him on W. F. Buckley's "Firing Line" on public tv.  I've also read several of his books.  He was far more direct in his thoughts and explanations than someone like George Will who writes many times in a somewhat confusing style.
Sowell was one the few black writers who refused to blame America for black failure.
But he was not a black writer...he was a pro-American writer who happened to be black.
