Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) said on Tuesday that he will stay in the Senate after meeting with President-elect Donald Trump regarding a possible Cabinet position.
In a statement, Manchin said he was “humbled to be considered for the Secretary of Energy position” but that “right now, I believe that I can best serve my state of West Virginia in the United States Senate.”
Manchin was floated as a potential Energy secretary, though Trump on Tuesday morning named former Texas Gov. Rick Perry as his pick for the position.
