Not sure if this is the best place for this, but here it is anyway:

http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/42507.Lt_Gen_James_Mattis_Professional_Reading

"Lt. Gen. James Mattis (USMC) is known as one of the most accomplished commanders in recent history and as one of the finest Marines to walk this planet. He also is a dedicated reader, and credits some of his success in the middle east to studying the works of those who had gone before him. This list is assembled from this list of required reading for CENTCOM USMC officers (published by Small Wars Journal http://smallwarsjournal.com/blog/ltgen-james-mattis-reading-list) and also from a personal email he sent (published by Business Insider http://www.businessinsider.com/viral-james-mattis-email-reading-marines-2013-5). I can't find some of the books referenced in the latter source."
My political philosophy:

1) I'm not bothering anybody.
2) It's none of your business.
3) Leave me alone!

There's also books you can find on the Commandant's Professional Reading List:

Mattis' favorite personal professional tome is Meditations, by Marcus Aurelius.  Heartily recommended to anyone, really.  A brilliant guide to the philosophy of Stoicism.
