I am not confused by most Leftist groups in most countries around the world. But American Leftist are an enigma wrapped in a paradox.
In almost every country world-wide the Left is going to be the very poor and the outcast. In America, the Left is the richest of the rich. The rich in America are almost universally Leftwing. So much so that is an anomaly to find an uber-wealth Rightwing person in America. This is opposite of logic and opposite of what is happening in the rest of the world.
The American Left has built up a engrained group-think which fantasizes what a Socialist Dictatorship is. They seem to imagine that in a socialist society everybody is equal (not at all true), and everyone has the money they need (not true), that everyone has healthcare and all the food that they need. This is a fantasy land of rainbows and unicorns. It does not now, and never has existed anywhere on planet Earth. But, the American Left will never accept that premise, because they isolate themselves and consider any contradictory opinion or any injection of facts or truth into their fantasy world to be what they call 'hate speech'. They refuse to even hear differing ideas, much less to consider or ponder them.
The America Left picks and chooses which Leftists and which dictators they like or do not like based solely on their version of 'political correctness'. For example, we have seen in the past few hours that the American Left has nothing but praise and worship for Castro, a brutal and murderous dictator. And yet, they have nothing but hate and scorn for Putin and Russia, who is the primary sponsor of Cuba and Castro. So, to put this in perspective, the American Left loves the same person who Putin allies with and supports, and yet they hate Putin who is the chief ally of Castro. Maybe someone can figure this out. I certainly cannot.
In deference to the season I will close with this. It has been said many times, many ways, American style Liberalism is a mental disorder. It really, truly, is. American Liberals are non compos mentis. Or, to put it more directly, they are missing some vital part of their brain that controls logic and reason.
