Could Romney McDaniel take over as RNC chair?

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — There’s talk that Ronna Romney McDaniel, the chair of the Michigan Republican Party, could be tapped to chair the Republican National Committee, sources tell 24 Hour News 8.

The current RNC chair, Reince Priebus, has been called on to be President-elect Donald Trump’s White House chief of staff. His selection may be a sign that Trump is trying to reach out to Congress — like Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, Priebus is from Wisconsin and the two are said to be close.

As far as Priebus’s replacement goes, nothing is set in stone. But sources tell 24 Hour News 8 political reporter Rick Albin that Romney McDaniel is under careful consideration for the job.

She is the niece of outspoken Trump opponent Mitt Romney — but as the state party chair, she was supportive of the Trump candidacy well before the national convention. Romney McDaniel appeared and spoke at most of Trump’s campaign stops in Michigan. In addition, she presided over the first general election win for a Republican presidential candidate in Michigan since 1988.
