We need somebody who can explain "what Trump really meant to say" in a way that doesn't cause wars.  Based on the way he writes, Bolton's not that guy.

is it fair to assume he'll use the exact same tone as SoS that he used as a pundit?  He's never going to be a shrinking violent, but he's also a very smart guy who understands the way the world works.  But when you're on the outside, you have to shout a little louder to be heard.

I think that mealy-mouthed two-faced weak and wobbly types like John Kerry are much more apt to create chaos and war that a well-informed, well-intentioned and clear speaker.

I think that is pure fantasy. There is no reason imaginable she would be on such a list much less near the top of it. But I guess stranger things have happened.

He's good. Smart as a whip, well connected internationally from his time at the UN, has a better and more realistic grasp of military abilities than half the brass, and isn't afraid of speaking clearly or saying no. He's also unusual in that if he doesn't know something, he admits it up front and he's not instantly dismissive of things "not invented here."

Yes, his writings have been a bit OTT at times recently - not denying that. He's still the best option I've seen floated, by far.

It’s being reported now that John Bolton is close to being named as Secretary of State in the new Trump administration:

I really hope this is true and Bolton gets this role. I can’t think of anyone more thoughtful about State and Foreign affairs than Bolton. I have no doubt that he will do an epic job including a thorough cleaning up of the State Department, which is badly needed!

That would be great.  I've always like Bolton.

I think he will name Christie as Secretary of Defense rather than Ayotte -- both of them would be a terrible choice for the position.
