AT&T Is Spying on Americans for Profit, New Documents Reveal
« on: October 25, 2016, 08:34:28 pm »
Quote
Hemisphere is a secretive program run by AT&T that searches trillions of call records and analyzes cellular data to determine where a target is located, with whom he speaks, and potentially why.....

....However, AT&T’s own documentation—reported here by The Daily Beast for the first time—shows Hemisphere was used far beyond the war on drugs to include everything from investigations of homicide to Medicaid fraud.

Hemisphere isn’t a “partnership” but rather a product AT&T developed, marketed, and sold at a cost of millions of dollars per year to taxpayers. .....

I can bet AT&T has a nice provision in their contracts that basically say, as long as you use their network, any content or data (including location, tracking, etc) transmitted over it, is property of AT&T...and consumers agree to it without knowing what it means..

(not saying that is right, just observed some of the arguments being made)

There are provisions like that in the fine print.   However, there is a difference between AT&T, which is subject to their privacy policy and laws, and the government.   Sure its good when this is used to find bad guys.   How about when its used to find political opponents?

And our law enforcement has shown they are fine with bypassing the 4th amendment, at the local, state and federal levels.

Back in 2000, 60 Minutes had a conniption over the Echelon Program.   Imagine today, with the cooperation between the government, AT&T, Verizon, Google, et al.....

The frightening capabilities they must have now.
I disagree.  Circle gets the square.
