Pentagon Pushing ‘Multi-Domain Battle’ Concept
By Jon Harper

The Defense Department is jettisoning the "air-land" and "air-sea" battle concepts in favor of a “multi-domain battle” construct, Pentagon officials said Oct. 4.

Potential adversaries are closing the technology gap with the United States and developing strategies to keep U.S. forces at bay. This trend requires the military to come up with a new joint-service fighting concept to maintain their edge, Deputy Secretary of Defense Bob Work said during a speech at the Association of the United States Army annual conference in Washington, D.C.

Such a concept must include the land, sea, air, space, cyber and electronic warfare domains, he said.
