#NeverTrump: We Told You He Would Kill Us, but You Didn’t Listen

Never Trump Republicans have watched Donald Trump’s spectacular failure with mixed emotions and are bracing for a long, painful intraparty civil war.

Republicans will not simply walk away unscathed from the looming Trump disaster after Election Day.

The last two days have convinced anti-Trump Republicans not only that he will lose, but that there will be a prolonged civil war within the party. Trump not only needs to be humiliated at the ballot box, they say, but his supporters will need to be permanently thrown out.

“Whether the Republican party can survive is an open question,” said Randy Scheunemann, who served as a top aide to Sen. John McCain during his 2008 presidential run.

“The Republican party has been deeply wounded by his candidacy and the damage will last far beyond Election Day. Already Trump and Trumpians are blaming ‘establishment’ Republicans for his demise. The blame game after his impending defeat will intensify.”

Pretty much spot on, though I hesitate to use the term "mindless" when it comes to Trump supporters. I am willing to give them time to soberly reflect on their decision to blindly support such a flawed candidate.

I was tempted to vote for Trump after Cruz dropped out, if only to give the GOPe a big FU. As time went on, I returned to my senses, thanks to Trump's vulgarity and incessant changing of his positions.

To avoid Trumpesque disaster-candidates in the future, said Tom Nichols, a former GOP senate aide who has since become a professor at the Naval War College, the RNC needs to make structural changes, “including closed primaries.... and discouraging pointless vanity campaigns—that are going to be crucial to preventing this kind of train wreck in the future.”

Trump’s campaign strategy, his pugilistic style, and the propensity to attack fellow Republicans will be fiercely debated after the election, and it’s a debate that could take years to resolve.

But one thing is for sure: The millions of GOP voters who supported Trump passionately will not go quietly. So even as Never Trumpers are preparing for a protracted battle, they are trying to forge the peace they hope comes after.

“Make sure Trump’s supporters understand that the Republican Party ‘gets’ the issues he raised, and work them into the GOP priorities,” McGrath said. “Listen to what Trump’s supporters said—but separate that from Trump.”

That's a whole lot of common sense right there, though I question exactly how you "discourage pointless vanity campaigns".  Not much can be done about how a candidate choose to run.  But a closed primary is a good idea.  Kind of defeats the purpose to have either 1) Democrats, or 2) people whose goal is to "destroy the party" voting in the primary.

There is no point to an intraparty civil war. The Brand is nothing now but baggage and liberal members. Anyone that wants to waste time there will not only have the stigma of Bhoner, Mitch and Romney to overcome, but now the Trumpian horde and it's many acts of liberal idiocy as well.

If a person wants to waste time trying to 'fix' that, they really should stay there. Any person interested in fixing America can simply move to a third party and begin anew without the baggage.

Sorry folks. Some of us learned our lesson years ago and tried warning you every since. You all have a choice. Waste even more time and effort or at least have a chance for your effort to accomplish something positive.

Last night I spent a frw hours going over many of the big Youtube channels from tech sites to entertainment.

I'm sure Trump's people will deny the significance as they deny all negatives about Orange Glorious. however we all know that Yoytube is the TV of today's millenial. And EVERY one of their heroes, AKA the biggest youtubers are now openly telling their viewers to vote Clinton. Some of them crouch it in "Yea she sucks but..." type phrasing, but MOST of them go straight to Trump's sexcapades first,or finish with it.

Millenials vote on emotion. You can bet that between their celeb worship and desire to be with the in crowd, most will follow blindly.

We could have avoided this with most of the other guys on the primary stage. But as usual, one group of idiots had to have the most liberal guy standing on it. I now am firmly in the group that believes this will be a landslide for the Dems.

Actually, the camps will be the safest place in the country. Once the war breaks out between the Trump liberals and the Clinton liberals, all we need to do is survive the guards long enough for them to run away after the two factions kill each other off. Then we can repopulate with sane people.

I say we add one article to the Constitution though. Make stupidity a deportable offence.

Welcome to 1852.

Pierce and his running mate William R. King went on to win what was at the time one of the nation's largest electoral victories, defeating Scott and his running mate, William Alexander Graham of North Carolina, 254 electoral votes to 42. In the aftermath of this overwhelming defeat the Whig Party rapidly collapsed as a national political force as internal tensions regarding the issue of slavery caused mass abandonment of the party, resulting in the party's failure to nominate a candidate for President in 1856, making 1852 the last presidential election in which the Whig Party participated.
After 40 years of being lied to by people who called themselves "Conservatives", I no longer consider myself to be a "Conservative".

I greatly appreciate the offer, though I don't think I'd ever make it to the internment camp. There are vast open spaces in Texas suitable for hiding out.

This article, like many of the Trumpeters, misses a bit of the point.  There are not two factions at play.  According to this article there are the Trumpeters and the Republican Never Trumpers.

There is a third group who I suspect make up a significant portion of this website and conservatives around the nation:  those who despise Trump (and all liberal Democrats) AND the Republican party....both for the same reason, they are sunshine conservatives...spewing their lies to cajole us into voting for them only to turn their back on us once they get their grubby little mitts upon the reins of power.

And when this war breaks out, we will have no dog in the fight.  There is no way in hell I will defend Trump and there is no way in hell I will defend Republicans.  Perhaps the 1 or 2 actual conservative leaders can be there with us to pick up the pieces.

Hopefully, we'll move out of this area and some place very remote before they have a chance to come for us.
I Believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign nation of many sovereign states; a perfect union one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.  I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws to respect its flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

Welcome to 1852.
Heh. Fainting Frank Pierce—a man who was an incredibly weak candidate, and just as weak of a President, with little to go for him except his boyish good looks (until JFK he was the youngest president in U.S. history) and charismatic personality. He was truly a man of style over substance.

With luck, whatever rises from the Republican Party's ashes will have as much luck as the Republicans had after Pierce. After all, Clinton has all of the problems of Pierce and none of the good looks or charisma.
