Yeah.  My mother was hooked on drugs and my brother on alcohol.  So it does not look very tempting to me.

Yeah, I hear you. It's sooooo entertaining and fun to be around those who are under the influence of one substance or another -- NOT!!!

Soooo..................... is it over yet??

Exactly.

I also worked the graveyard shift at a Sambo's restaurant when I was a teen.  The bars closed at 2:00 am and the drunks would come in and think they were sooooo funny.  They were not.

For me, not only are there my own personal experiences but alcohol is pretty expensive.  I'm too cheap.  I'd rather have some new shoes, clothes, jewelry, purses...etc....than a bunch of alcohol.  Or DVDs.  Something to show for it.  Same for smoking.  A whole lot of money gets wasted that could otherwise be a fantastic shoe closet.

I'd rather buy a new welder or impact wrench. Or that giant air compressor I've been wanting for a while.

As long as they pay the rent and not trash the place it's their business......unless it is in Wilkes Barre. They have a flaky law that if there is drug activity in your rental they can take it because they claim the owner is profiting from the drug trade.
@Frank Cannon

My Bob is from Wilkes Barre.  His father had the Polish funeral home there and he was the asst. Coroner there.  Their home is still there, made into apartments now and behind the house where the large garage was is also turned into apartments.  In those years was when the funeral home was the first floor of the house and the family lived upstairs.

I have been to Wilkes Barre twice.  We stay in a motel and go to the casino there.  That whole area is mountains and it's no fun to be on those mountain roads in the dark with heavy rain coming down.

I have access to heroin. I could probably obtain most street drugs by contacting certain of my tenants, and that is a fact.

Do you have section 8's?

That's not fair.  Were some people trying to hide assets by having one drug partner own the property while another lived there and sold it or something?

Wiles Barre is a corrupt mess. It is the only place that I may or may not have openly bribed a govt' employee to smooth over an issue.

Got rid of them. Too much paperwork and govt' interference. No matter how nice the place is they always find something for you to spend money on.

Smoking is a great way to burn money.  I stopped back in 2009 and I figure that, including the additional sodas and coffees I used to buy to go along with my smoking, I've probably saved about $45,000.

It's no fun to be in Wilkes Barre either. That's why I live an hour away.

Well I earned $45K a year in my spare time selling Amway. Can I get your address and phone number so I can tell you all about this great opportunity?

Plus, I just don't like making a fool of myself. I've seen too many intelligent, dignified, refined and/or educated individuals make such fools of themselves. I was never able to hold them in the same regard after that.

BTW, since you like to buy purses and jewelry, may I assume you're a chick? Or are you just identifying as one this week?  :silly:

Bob says you are right.  Back in history, the area was divided, The Polish in one place, Irish in another, Italians in another.  Bribery did happen even back then.

Amway also reminds me of working that Sambo's graveyard shift.  Every Tuesday night the Amway crowd would come in after their meeting and hog the entire back room, order nothing but coffee, and stay for hours.  They rarely tipped.  Bums!!!!

Wow.  That's really something.  i grew up around a bunch of smokers.  When I was a little kid I thought all men smoked.  So I don't mean to be too hard on smokers.  I'm just saying that it doesn't look that fun to me and besides, I'm too cheap.

I didn't take it as being hard.  It was enjoyable, for the most part, and for a long time I missed a lot of the ritual that went with it, but I got tired of giving so much in taxes to the government, and didn't want my daughter to grow up with a father who smoked, so I bit the bullet on April 1, 2009, and stopped.  I haven't had a single one since then.

Good for you.  Health wise I think you actually regain ground when you stop.  I think so anyway.

My brother who became an alcoholic also smoked.  He was driving drunk, headed to a girlfriend's house (he was married) when he rolled his vehicle and almost died.  He was in a coma for awhile and ended up with a life changing head injury.  His memory was gone.  He forgot he smoked, forgot his wife and kids and girlfriend....and how to walk and a bunch of other stuff.  Anyway, darn if he didn't pick up smoking again.  The girlfriend smoked, so she got him started again.  Yada yada....I have lots of fun stories like that.

That's what I understand:  that after several years your lungs manage to do a fair bit of regeneration.

That's funny...what is with April 1st....I quit April 1st 2007....it was hard for me and I could start up tomorrow...nothing but sheer will power now...my Dr said it is harder for women to quit than men..not sure about that......I do know that after I quit...painted all the rooms, new carpet and some new furniture...a smoke free house..lol....
