If Trump had released his tax returns during the primaries and had tax experts and his surrogates explain that there is nothing illegal or unusual about using carry forward losses, he would have taken some heat for it, but it would have mostly gone away and this would not be a story now.
But IMO it is the nearly 916 million dollars in business losses in the mid 90’s that Trump didn’t want people to know about. The bad investments he made in the casinos, the airline, the Plaza Hotel deal.
It goes against his image as a brilliant business person and of his net worth.

http://www.vulture.com/2016/08/donald-trump-roast-off-limits-joke.htmlhttps://www.good.is/articles/donald-trump-comedy-centralIt is all about Trump’s ego. Yes “jokes” about him wanting to have sex with his daughter, jokes about his sex life, jokes about his current wife Melania being a mail order bride and or a prostitute were all OK but jokes about him not being as wealthy as he’s claimed to be - NO!
