Your excerpting ruined the story.  Did you not know that every time someone has to go out to the Times, that counts against their monthly count of ten articles?  Why do you do this?

You don't know? After all of these years you don't know?

If people want to read it they will go to the NYT....if you want to pay my legal bills I will send you my address...knock it off....all articles except for a few that I have gotten permission are to be excerpted.

Your enforcement is selective.

Correct, general rule, we should excerpt everything.

Maybe, it may be just me, but as a general rule, I'd say the owners should set the excerpting policy and WE don't have anything but an advisory opinion

No denial.

Yeah, but he did remind us that (a) he knows the tax code better than any candidate for president ever, and (b) he's the ONLY ONE who can fix it.

Good grief.   Excerpting articles due to copyright law is standard fare on all forums these days.  It's required and even included in forum rules all over the internet.  It's not like it just started yesterday.  Get a grip here.

A mole, or a purposeful leak by a candidate who doesn't actually want to win.

Bingo!
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

When have they ever done that?  So we have to cut out 90% of an article?  That's nuts.

Get friggin' real.

You get friggin' real. This is SOP. It was an issue for all of the time you were at TOS.

The media is going to have field day with the fact that Trump built a multi-billion dollar business while he paid no taxes.

Enforcement is selective, and the idea that we have to excerpt 10% of the article is nuts.

I don't love it either.  I remember when this issue hit FR.  In the early days we posted all of everything.  I think they did get letters from lawyers demanding they stop it.  So my guess is, this is just trying to avoid ever getting the dreaded legal letter.  I understand your frustration and you are correct, people do not click through.  I do sometimes, but rarely with the NYTimes.  I am not sure, but maybe you can post bits of the key points on later posts to the thread.  You would have to check with those who know better than I do.

There's more to it than that.  Hardly anybody reads the rest of articles.  So why post?

Try explaining passive income tax rules to the general public, especially when a billionaire invokes them.

Trump declared a $915 MILLION LOSS.  Your average CPA could never have pulled that off.

If Trump had released his tax returns in February, this would have been thoroughly litigated. Now it eats up a week of October coverage.

Trump supporters don't pay taxes anyway. Most of them are on welfare. This won't hurt him a bit.

That is as bad as not paying taxes.

Have you seen Darrell Castle's tax returns?

I wonder how much he earns...campaigning.  :pondering:

Quite often actually. The NYT even sued over the use of a thumbnail image.

Sink, I have yet to use up my 10 NYT clicks in a month. I think you're worrying about this excerpting thing unnecessarily. More will click over than you think.

BTW, selective enforcement from a Trumpster would be suspicious.  In this case it is just that the NYTimes is very pro-active on this issue.  Why do you think they allow you only 10 visits a month?  Others are more lax and see it more as advertisement that benefits them.

I'm over it.

This was released just in time to be the topic on EVERY SINGLE SUNDAY SHOW.

And it has legs.

Seriously?  You can put any return address you want on an envelope you mail.  Its not like the post office checks it....

@sinkspur

I post, on average, 90 articles a month, many from the NYTimes.  I will not go to the Times to read an article since I need those 10 articles in reserve for posting.  The Washington Post is just as bad, although there are ways to get around the Posts limits.

On the contrary.....folks that were trying to make up their mind about which idiot to vote for (and there are a LOT of those folks out there)....will rethink voting for Trump if they perceive that he's a tax cheat.  And at the very least, they'll know he's not such a great businessman after all....since he had that big of a loss.   Of course, it will depend upon how widely this info is distributed.  Wouldn't put it past the Clinton campaign to put it in one of their many anti-Trump ads.

Suddenly no one want to talk about tax returns anymore.

I guess there are no passive income or IRC1031 tax specialists in the audience...
