Poll: Clinton regains 5-point lead nationally

By Jessie Hellmann

Hillary Clinton is bouncing back after a week of bad polling news, upping her lead over Donald Trump to five points, according to a new national poll released Tuesday morning.

Clinton has 50 percent support among likely voters with Trump at 45 percent, the NBC News poll found.

In the same poll last week, Clinton led Trump 48 to 44 percent.

The Democratic presidential nominee maintains her five-point lead when third-party candidates are added in. Clinton has 45 percent in that scenario, while Trump has 40 percent, Libertarian Gary Johnson has 10 percent and Jill Stein of the Green Party has four percent.

Clinton's lead grows to six points when all registered voters are considered — 49 to 43 percent.

The poll was conducted online Sept. 12-18 among 14,326 adults who said they are registered to vote, including 13,320 likely voters.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.2 percentage points.

Clinton had seen a drop in national polls this week. She now has a 1.3 percent lead over Trump in an average of national polls, after leading by as many as six points in polling averages last month.
