Police in New York are responding to an explosion in Manhattan.

Multiple injuries are reported.

According to the New York City Police Department, the incident happened on 23rd Street between 6th and 7th Avenues around 8:30 Saturday night.

Police have cordoned off a large area near the scene.

The NYPD's counterterrorism unit confirmed in a tweet that an explosion had occurred at in that area.

Several injured people have been taken to local hospitals.

ABC-7 New York reporter CeFaan Kim captured photos of two cars that appear to have been damaged.

Reminder: Donald Trump is actively rooting for the explosion in NYC to turn out to be a terrorist attack. Let that sick reality sink in.

Dozens hurt in Manhattan explosion; 2nd device found
http://www.fox5ny.com/news/206019275-story

I hope no one was killed or even in serious condition or had a foot blown off or things like that.

So far, there are rumors of what happened but I'll wait until we hear more factual info.

There should be a lot of CCTV it sounds like.

Manhattan is Target One on worldwide terrorists' watch list. Luckily in NYC we have the finest anti-terrorism task force in the world. Both commissioners Kelly and Bratton (who just retired) have been well on top of it. The unit has thwarted untold attacks since 9-11, and have assisted other police jurisdictions across the country in implementing anti-terrorism measures.

My girlfriend takes the subways and says police presence is always strong, but especially when the terror threat is high anywhere in the world. They take no chances with lives of New Yorkers.

New York explosion that injured 29 was 'intentional act,' mayor says
By Mallory Simon and Tim Hume, CNN
Updated 8:26 AM ET, Sun September 18, 2016

New York (CNN)Police are hunting for answers on what caused an explosion that injured 29 people in New York's Chelsea neighborhood, shortly before a second suspicious device was found nearby.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio told reporters early indications are that the explosion at 23rd Street and 6th Avenue in Manhattan at about 8.30 p.m. Saturday "was an intentional act."

But, he said, "there's no specific and credible threat against New York City at this time from any terror organization."
Investigators believe the blast was caused by an explosive device in or near a dumpster, a law enforcement source told CNN.

They are looking at surveillance video that appears to show a person near where the explosion occurred, in an attempt to determine if that individual is connected to the blast.  ...

Just blocks away from the explosion, a suspicious device was found at 27th Street, according to multiple local and federal law enforcement officials.

The object was a pressure cooker with dark colored wiring protruding, connected by silver duct tape to what appears to be a cellphone, officials said. A piece of paper with writing on it was found nearby.  ...

There were actually three explosions, or three different locations where devices were found before they could explode.  The one that did explode was found in a dumpster on 23rd St near a subway entrance and at the side of a residence for the visually handicapped (convenient for placing a bomb, I imagine).  It was connected to three other pressure cookers that were obviously meant to explode with it but did not. They were loaded with shrapnel, which means they were anti-personnel devices, like the Boston bombing pressure cookers.

Another device was found on 28th St. near a subway entrance and a third device, reported only briefly, was found on 14th St. and one of the alphabet streets - also near a subway entrance.

These are all areas that would have foot traffic at night, even if not a huge crowd such as the Boston race, but being on the way to a subway entrance would ensure that there'd be people passing by.

NYPD has been very good at securing the subways themselves and also at protecting crowd events or particularly crowded locations, so I think the nutbags have shifted their focus to less heavily monitored areas, even if they are less trafficked, and are doing this to instill fear in New Yorkers no matter where they are in the city.

Trump made his uninformed announcement of a "bomb" before anybody  knew.  He was practically jumping up and down, hoping for a terrorist incident.

ISIS Supporters Rush To Celebrate NYC Explosion
"We cause you pain inside your house," one ISIS supporter bragged online

By Gilad Shiloach
Sep 18, 2016 at 6:05 AM ET

Supporters of the Islamic State rushed to celebrate Saturday night’s powerful explosion in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood that injured at least 29 people, even as no group or individual has been arrested or claimed responsibility.

“The lions of the Caliphate roar in New York, we cause you pain inside your house, the carrier of the Cross,” wrote one Twitter user who went by the name “I am ISIS, come and block me.” The account was soon suspended. Another, called “The Lone Wolves,” tweeted with the Arabic hashtag #ExplosionManhattanNewYork “Oh God burn America, take revenge in the name of your oppressed slaves and believers’ blood.”

Others tweeted about “good tidings that keep coming” from New York, and one user affiliated with al-Qaeda in Syria tweeted: “Oh God go against America, the head of infidels. Oh God, count them and kill them one by one, and do not spare anyone of them.”

I'm no Trump fan but I don't see the problem with the above statement.  I actually agree with it.

People here and people on FR seem to believe that the world revolves around Trump and everything relates to him. It doesn't.

So far, a gay nutcase has "taken credit" for it, although his claim on Tumblr is considered unlikely. More likely is the Arab connection, since a letter, partly in Arabic, was found with the second unexplored bomb (which was discovered by accident by a nearby elderly resident who looked out her door to see if things looked safe and noticed the pressure cooker sitting across the street).  Two witnesses dining across the street from the first bombing, I believe, have also come forward to say they saw an Arab-looking man or men with a large suitcase heading in the direction of where the bomb was found, and apparently a similar person appears on a surveillance video.
