@Right_in_Virginia , I'm not so much fighting FOR something as I'm here expecting ("looking for") a fight; not FOR something but with "WHO". And frankly, it's "Who"s that I shouldn't have to fight with. Somehow, that's the way it's been turning out.
I think the OP stands on its own, but for a little clarification:
We may agree on some of Trump's statements or on a stated position of his, either completely or in theory. But (speaking for myself and I expect, a few others), we don't know what to think of the man. We don't know if his word is good. We don't see how he can pull it off without us sacrificing even more liberty. We don't see how he can pull it off without working through Congress or going extra-Constitution. And we want to discuss those things.
We want to ask questions and we want to be able to offer criticisms with/to other conservatives and have a profitable, constructive dialog about them. And it's not like I'm suggesting some wild and crazy, fringe-y, tin-foil-hat-wearing topics. Just a civil discussion, even if it contains tough questions and answers and/or criticisms and responses.
However, my personal experience is that when I do that, I'm attacked, excoriated, accused of all kinds of plots/intents/thoughts that I don't hold, called a "newbie"...and have even been described as a supporter of Hillary. None of that has any bearing on the topic, but it must serve SOME purpose to those who employ it.
And they're "conservatives", no less. Some on this site and TOS and throughout internet-dom who claim the conservative label and are Trump supporters.
And I don't get my desired discussion. On this thread alone, I think you'll see exactly what I'm describing. I don't know every person's allegiances, but I haven't seen a known Trump supporter telling me that they agreed with me and that we really SHOULD be able to do that without the rancor and acrimony.
And I wonder why it seems to be always thus.
So, I hate to say it, but I wrote the OP "...looking for (expecting) a fight..." and whoops! Up jumped the devil!
What do you know about that?
Mr./Ms. Chasaway,
My first question to you (as a surrogate to many others) is: "Why?"
Why do you want to 'fight' with people on the public Internet about your choices for the 11/8 Presidential Election?
You seem to be a reasonably sharp guy/gal, do you really care one iota what people on the public Internet think about your choice?
It would be my guess that at this point in time, you probably have a good idea as to how you will vote. (And the reasoning in hand, behind your choice.)
Correct me if I am wrong, but you appear to be troubled by the discourse on this forum regarding the Republican nominee. My humble suggestion is that you get on the right side of the problem, rather than lament your current position.
There is a sub-forum that is named: " On The Campaign Trail! (PRO TRUMP ONLY)." It is my opinion that the parenthetical qualifier is misnamed. It should be something like: "(Supporting the GOP Nominees)" or left off completely. In the past, after the primaries and convention ended, the GOP Briefing Room set aside the disappointments and rallied around the GOP Nominees (
as difficult as it was for some to stomach at the time).
There is a destructive notion that is often paraded throughout this forum, and that is: "only Trump supporters can post in that area." And it has a correlate, Trump supporters should not post elsewhere. See this post as an example:
http://www.gopbriefingroom.com/index.php/topic,222982.msg1037707.html#msg1037707Why are some of you people on the free speech Trump Arizona speech thread accosting posters on that thread? We don't need your aggravation. Stay here where you wanted to be by yourselves. Geesh! You are irritating and have little to say except post nasty little posts, especially RIV. Now, RIV, moderator in chief of this only Trump section, wipe my post off as the little person you are.

@mystery-ak will surely correct me if I am wrong, but it is my understanding that:
1. EVERYONE is welcome and encouraged to post in the "Trump area" (
http://www.gopbriefingroom.com/index.php/board,120.0.html). Especially in the Rally threads where the GOP team of Trump and Pence are barnstorming the country, speaking out for the positions and policies that 95+% of the members of this forum have been clamoring for, for many years. I will speak out of turn for the Moderator of this forum, but I believe my statements are in line with her desires:
A.
Constructive Criticism of our Nominees is welcome. Points made, with respect to how they may better frame the message, or even when they may fail on a point, are more than welcome. Mssrs. Trump and Pence are human beings, they DON'T get everything right (at least in terms of how we see it).
B.
Honest Questions about their policy positions and/or public statements are more than welcome. Presidential politics is a VERY convoluted game. Factor in a one-sided media and chaos results, much akin to what we are seeing now. Are you confused about what Mr. Trump or Mr. Pence may have said? Ask away.... ask for context... ask for backup information.... ask for the actual statement underlying the media spin...
Again, speaking out of school for our intrepid moderator, Right_in_Virgina, what is not welcome in that sub-forum (yes, the one that traditionally was used to follow our chosen Nominees on the general election campaign trail) is:
- gratuitous insults aimed at our Nominees and/or their supporters,
- ludicrous accusations of misintent and outright LIES,
- inane graphics or commentary that reduce the quality of the forum to a sink hole.
Come into the threads.... state your
genuine concerns and questions.... state your
honest objections.... be respectful (not only to our Nominees and their supporters, but more importantly, to
this forum and
yourself.).
2. Every member of this forum is welcome and encouraged to post in each and every sub-forum, as long as they abide by the rules of the forum (explicitly stated and otherwise understood).
There is no reason to look for a 'fight' of any sort at this point in time. The primary contests are over, the GOP Convention has come and gone. Yes, there are numerous 3rd parties candidates available in many states that one can choose over the two main candidates. If that is your desire, full steam ahead to you, vote your conscience and may you rest easily with your choice. But if you may be one that accepts the situational facts of the matter, that being that either Mr. Trump or Ms. Clinton will become the 45th POTUS on January 20, 2017, then join aboard.... let us all know your deeply held misgivings.... rant until your heart's content about the weakness of the chosen GOP standard bearers, but if GOD be your judge, do not permit within your personal abilities, the demon of HRC to ascend to the prominence of POTUS. Be HONEST in your questions and concerns, fall not victim to the media's faux angst and anguish with respect to the "purity" of the GOP team.
A side remark to another:
@skeeter -- you are obviously SMART enough to not allow the statements of anonymous others on the public Internet to sway your choices, vote YOUR conscience and disregard the chaff that billows about.
