GOP Sen. Marco Rubio will face Democratic Rep. Patrick Murphy after both won their Senate primaries in Florida Tuesday night.
Rubio had 71 percent of the vote to developer Carlos Beruff’s 20 percent when the Associated Press called the GOP primary with 38 percent of precincts reporting. Murphy had 59 percent to liberal Rep. Alan Grayson’s 18 percent and Pam Keith’s 15 percent on the Democratic side.
Rubio’s decision to un-retire in June almost cleared the Republican field, with Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera, businessman Todd Wilcox and Reps. Ron DeSantis and David Jolly dropping out of the race and backing the incumbent. Only Beruff remained. Beruff spent heavily to attack Rubio, but he was ultimately unable to damage Rubio among Florida Republicans.
