A new report shows the states Donald Trump is targeting for their poor economies actually have improving economies that are on the up.

The Wall Street Journal claims that seven toss-up states that will play crucial roles in the election have low unemployment numbers, and all 11 of the swing states are enjoying growing economies.

The Journal provides an example in North Carolina, where Gov. Pat McCrory spoke before Trump at a rally and talked to the crowd about the state's low unemployment and fast job growth. When Trump took the stage, however, he talked about a struggling economy and told the crowd their jobs were not safe.

In Michigan last week, Trump told a similar story but was later criticized by the state's Republican Gov. Rick Snyder, who said Michigan is in the middle of a job-growth period.

Trump, reports the Journal, once talked about Indiana's economy as struggling until he chose Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate, at which point he changed his rhetoric and painted a better picture.

Trump has used the nation's economy as one of his key campaign issues, promising to add jobs and make better trade deals that are more favorable to the U.S.

The Trump campaign released a new ad this week that focuses on the economy, part of a $10 million spending blitz in nine battleground states.
