Unfathomable heroics of airman left behind by SEAL Team 6 during furious Afghan mountaintop battle in 2002 revealed in new video that shows he died fighting Al Qaeda with his BARE HANDS

Sgt. John Chapman was an Air Force computer technician who served as radioman for Navy SEAL Team 6
He joined a mission to establish an observation post on a strategically crucial mountain in southeastern Afghanistan
As his team came under heavy fire, he is believed to have been knocked unconscious, leading his squad leader to think he was dead
The furious engagement became known as the Battle of Takur Ghar or the Battle of Roberts Ridge
Seven US servicemen also lost their lives during the encounter in March, 2003
New evidence suggests that he regained consciousness and kept fighting even though he was surrounded by Al Qaeda militants

The United States could be on the verge of posthumously awarding the Medal of Honor to a soldier who was killed in action in Afghanistan – and the news is stirring controversy.

Sgt. John Chapman, an air force technician who was serving as a radioman for the elite SEAL Team 6 during mission in Afghanistan, died in fierce combat against Al Qaeda gunmen on an Afghan mountaintop on March 4, 2002.

The Americans led a coalition of nations in the military effort to destroy Al Qaeda and the Taliban following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Initially, it was believed that Chapman was killed in a gunfight with militants, prompting the outmanned and outgunned Navy SEAL commandos serving with him on the Takur Ghar mountain to retreat under heavy enemy fire
