Rob Lowe had to smile and laugh through a lot of harsh insults during last night's taping of his Comedy Central Roast.

But it was nothing compared to what Ann Coulter had to face.

"Ann is one of the most repugnant, hateful, hatchet-face bitches alive," said British comedian Jimmy Carr. "It's not too late to change, Ann. You could kill yourself."

Even NFL star Peyton Manning piled on the hate: "I'm not the only athlete up here," the Super Bowl champ said. "As you know earlier this year, Ann Coulter won the Kentucky Derby."

Coulter said the reason agreed to take part in the notoriously NSFW event was because she has a new book to promote.

"Ann Coulter has written 11 books, 12 if you include Mein Kampf," cracked funny lady Nikki Glaser.

And the dislike was evident during breaks between sets when hardly anyone said a word to Coulter.

Here, we give you some more of the night's zingers hurled at Coulter, Lowe and the other roasters, including David Spade, Jeffrey Ross, Jewel, Peyton Manning and SNL's Peter Davdson.

"Macaulay Culkin looks worse than I thought"—Peter Davison on David Spade.

"Ann, you are awful. The only person you will ever make happy is the Mexican who digs your grave"—Nikki Glaser

"Rob Lowe. Or as the girls in the sex tape said, ‘Rob, no'"—Jeffrey Ross

"SNL just released a compilation of David Spade's funniest sketches. It's called The Best of Chris Farley"—Rob Lowe

"Peyton Manning is a two-time Super Bowl champion and a Hall of Famer but it didn't give him a big head. That came from years of inbreeding"—Rob Lowe

someone should have said,

"Ann Coulter has a new book about how great and wonderful Donald Trumps immigration policy is... I mean was."

Other zingers aimed at Coulter:

Pete Davidson: "If you are here, Ann, who is scaring the crows away from our crops?"

Peyton Manning: "I’m not the only athlete up here. As you know, earlier this year, Ann Coulter won the Kentucky Derby."

Nikki Glaser: "The only person you will ever make happy is the Mexican who digs your grave."

Jewel: "I do want to say as a feminist that I can’t support everything that’s been said tonight. But as someone who hates Ann Coulter, I’m delighted."

I just find it very troubling that people seem to be more outraged at things people say, rather than at all of the evil that is actually being DONE in the world.

Makes me question what would happen if these people ever truly gained power.

Some of these comments aren't funny. I don't I'd be willing to pay to be made uncomfortable watching these 'comedians'.

And I'm not an Ann Coulter fan.

The Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts were entirely different, the Celebrities there were people you had actually heard of before and while the comments were biting, they were also humorous, witty and funny. The Comedy Central Roasts on the other hand are populated by so called comedians that most people have never heard of and are incapable of anything other than vile, crude, foul utterances. I sorely miss the actual comedians of the past, there are so few today that deserve the title of comedian. By the way, where'd you find an old clip of Trump before the hairpiece? Oh and in no way is this a defence of what they gave Coulter, just a comment on the crudeness.

I'm not exactly ancient, though I feel it, but my parents came from Hungary so I was a bit out of the rock and roll teenager thing and was brought up more with the great comedians and actors and made sure my children had an appreciation and knowledge of them as well as current entertainers. I was always amused that younger people I worked with had no knowledge of Red Skelton, Gleason, Benny, Caesar, Hope Danny Kaye, Laurel and Hardy, Abbot and Costello and so many others. They thought a comedians were those guys they knew that couldn't tell a joke without using the F' word. Not that the greats couldn't do dirty, loved Hackett!

My grandmother hated Milton Berle but loved Bob Newhart. She was apparently unaware of Newhart's stand up act.

These guys had a much more sophisticated humor that I didn't get as a kid but laugh at it for hours as an adult.

He's dead now but a modern comedian I liked was Bernie Mac, his stand up was typical black stand up but his sit com was family friendly. On the show his neighbors were Don Rickles and Carl Reiner playing themselves.

Lowe does lean conservative. I think Spade shows flashes of conservatism at times as well. They're both in their 50s at least.

Whatever you think about Coulter, many of her columns and books had/have hysterically funny parts to them. Sure, she's gone off the rails into crazyland before, but you have to give credit where credit is due. She has for many years lambasted liberals to distraction. That she's unable to distinguish an orange-faced conman from a real conservative this campaign just means she's gone into one of her periodic lunatic phases.

"Ann Coulter wants to help Trump make America great again. You can start by wearing a burka. You have a face that would make doves cry," said roast veteran Jeff Ross, who was dressed in purple as Prince. "That voice, it's like fingernails on a chalkboard in an inner-city school you wanna defund," he said. "Ann's against gay marriage. What's your thinking on that? If I can't get a husband they shouldn't, either?"

"She seems stiff and conservative, but Ann gets wild in the sheets. Just ask the Klan," said Roast Master David Spade. "It looks like she’s having a good time. I haven’t seen her laugh this hard since Trayvon Martin got shot."

That whole child porn thing, which he was never jailed for, sure sounds conservative leaning doesn't it?

Not to me. Ann has made some bad choices, especially in recent years, and the latest horse to back is a train wreck. His backpedaling on issues left her with a book release that is going to be difficult to market. Ouch.
She used to spend a lot of time saying things I could agree with, but she started hanging with that Northeastern Liberal crowd and has gone downhill.

That said, I don't see the humor in dumping a bunch of, well, just plain mean crap on someone. I was never one to torture vermin, or douse small animals in flammable liquids and light them up, either. Some things I just don't consider entertainment.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Wasn't this supposed to be a roast of the modestly talented Rob Lowe?   I never did find much humor in many of the people making fun of Coulter. This Jimmy Carr tool sounds like a real piece of work.  You say that stuff and then you smile at the victim like you really didn't mean it, when obviously many of them did mean it? I think many of the "funny" people in the article are about as funny as dog doo on your front porch.

Ann doesn’t get much sympathy from me.

Anyone who has ever watched, even clips from these Comedy Central Roasts knows exactly what sort of cesspool they are, with the raunchiest of jokes imaginable. Why would she even agreed to appear knowing that she would be mocked unmercifully is beyond me.  The only possible reason for her appearance was she got paid a very nice appearance fee. Much like her books, it’s all about the Benjamins.

FWIW in 2011 Donald Trump was roasted on Comedy Central.  YouTube used to have the full video but it, along with Trump’s more controversial appearances on the Howard Stern show, they have since been scrubbed.

But I watched it before it was taken down. And while I am no “prude” and not averse to all adult humor and “off-color jokes” per se, it was beyond disgusting, some really vile and x-rated stuff. And all the time Trump and his wife Melania and daughter Ivanka who were sitting in the audience, were seen laughing at the jokes about incest with his daughter, jokes about Melania being a whore and a mail order bride. Evidently Trump was OK with all these jokes, the only jokes he would not allow were any that questioned how much he was actually worth – that was off limits.

And Trump claimed that he only agreed to being roasted because the money paid for his appearance would go to charity but even that has been called into question.  It appears that Comedy Central did make a donation – to the Donald J. Trump Foundation.

Quote
In another instance, Trump said the fee for his 2011 Comedy Central roast would go to charity — reportedly $2 million and to his foundation. (Another time, Trump said it was $1 million.)

“Well, you know, interestingly, Comedy Central — which was a tremendous success for them and for me because I raised a lot of money for charity — they paid me a lot, which I have given to charity, so therefore I could laugh a little bit more,” Trump told CNN in 2011.

Trump’s foundation records from 2011 show just one donation from Comedy Central for $400,000. “A payment was made in conjunction with Donald Trump’s appearance on the ‘Comedy Central Roast of Donald Trump,’” a spokesperson for the network said. “Appearance agreements are confidential in nature so we cannot disclose any contractual details related to his appearance.”

Of course unless and until Trump releases his tax returns, we don't know if he donated anything from his Comedy Central roast appearance.

I see the point, but she, and her ilk, do bear responsibility.

She is the one who, for years now, have been pushing irresponsible candidates - this after hard-won credibility in the internet-punditry business.

Annie writes a wicked polemic.  But when the rubber hits the road, she's all on the side of squish and muddled.  She liked Chubbs Christie.  She was mushy for Mittens.  The Internet was not so ubiquitous when Dole was running, but I can guess where she stood.  Or where she was paid to stand.

She is not the cause, but she is a very-prominent shill for the persons and forces which keep us LOSING.

We aren't little sheep to be led by whoever has the podium under their elbows or a book on the rack.

We can discern whether these folks who would mold our opinions and beliefs make sense or are off base, and frequently do with Liberals. To not apply that critical thinking to even those who decry Liberals, out of misplaced faith in them to lead us blindly down the right path is folly.
We need to carefully consider what they say, especially if it is what we want to hear, and if it doesn't pass muster, discard it. Wanting something to be acceptably good doesn't make it that way and only leads to disappointment.

If Conservatives and the rest of Republicans have failed to do that due diligence, it's on us. She may be a messenger, but we still have to determine if the message is accurate, and there is a brand of intellectual laziness which will permit a lot to get by. As Ronald Reagan so succinctly said, "Trust, but verify."

Ann has a talent for acerbic wit, a way with words, and biting sarcasm. That can be entertaining in itself, however that doesn't mean she is always right, by any means. If she is wrong too often, or backs the wrong people, she will lose status in the eyes of those of us who read her commentary, as we see happening today. That is a punishment in itself. She is not a prophet, but a commentator.

They seem to rely on other mean people laughing at mean things, or stuff so 'edgy' that people laugh out of nervousness. From there, it's the laugh track...

I would wager that since most conservatives have been the brunt of some liberal's derision at one point or another, conservatives tend to actually find that meanness less amusing (more empathy, which also takes intelligence), not that we can't get nasty ourselves. The 'edgy' stuff is often just a turn-off altogether.
