Green Beret killed in Afghanistan

Staff Sgt. Matthew V. Thompson died from wounds suffered as a result of an IED while on patrol in Helmund Province, Afghanistan, according to a press release from the Army.
Thompson was assigned to Company A, 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., and had previously deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel.
