Researchers explore sunken ship rumored to have barrels of atomic wasteResearchers using an unmanned underwater vehicle are exploring the USS Independence, a World War-II era aircraft carrier that was deliberately sunk sixty-five years ago off the coast of California.A team of researchers aboard the Nautilus Live expedition, which is exploring the ocean floor with an operated vehicle called Hercules, are livestreaming footage of the ship from 2,600 feet below the surface.The USS Independence was stationed in the western Pacific during World War II, and was later one of more than 90 vessels in a fleet used for atomic bomb tests in Bikini Atoll in 1946, according to a statement from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.James P.
