19 Aug. 2016 -- Adjustments that decrease the contrast of the joint strike fighter's Generation III helmet-mounted display should enable pilots of the F-35C to land on aircraft carriers without ambient light off the display obscuring their view during critical carrier procedures.

“You could describe it as looking through a dirty window,” says Tom Briggs, acting chief test engineer for the Navy. “It’s not so bad on a really bright night. On a dark night it skewers outside light references for pilots."
