After 72 years, the remains of a Marine killed in battle during World War II have been identified and are headed home.

Dale Geddes, a native of Grand Island, Nebraska, was 21 when he died during the Battle of Tarawa in November of 1943. The three-day fight claimed the lives of nearly 1,000 Marines, and injured 2,000 others. An article in the Omaha World-Herald estimated that Geddes died sometime on the first day while tending to an injured fellow Marine.
