Rep. Carson: Fund Zika Research by ‘Cutting Back on Investments Made to Our Military Infrastructure’
(CNSNews.com)-- Rep. Andre Carson (D-IN) told CNSNews.com that the U.S. should be “cutting back on investments made to our military infrastructure” to fund research to combat the Zika virus.
Carson made the remarks following a press conference on Capitol Hill Thursday in which House Democratic leaders expressed frustration with what they characterized as Republicans’ failure to act against the virus during the August congressional recess.
A bill put forward by the GOP in June to allocate $1.1 billion for Zika research was blocked [1] by Democrats in the Senate because it restricted funding to Planned Parenthood in Puerto Rico and relaxed restrictions on pesticide spraying. The bill also came with spending cuts to compensate for its price tag.
