The US Air Force (USAF) will temporarily move Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon combat aircraft stationed at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, to two of the existing F-16 training locations, the service announced on 11 August.

"The Air Force is committed to a deliberate and open process to address relocating the F-16s," Jennifer A. Miller, deputy assistant secretary of the air force for installations, said in the statement. "As we progress through the basing process, we will share information so interested communities are aware of what to expect."

The 54 F-16s had been scheduled to remain at Hill until fiscal year 2018. The bases being considered to take the jets are Luke Air Force Base, Arizona; Tucson Air Guard Station, Arizona; Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico; or Joint Base San Antonio's Kelly Air Guard Station, Texas.
