The charities Donald Trump gave money to and what it says about his candidacy

As recently as last year Donald Trump declared himself an "ardent philanthropist." When he announced his candidacy for president in June, he released a financial statement that noted he has given away more than $102 million worth of land over the past five years to organizations that promote public open space.

The lofty figure, however, comes with an important qualifier he didn't mention: Mr. Trump has given away properties only after his efforts to develop at least some of them failed.

For example, earlier this year he donated 11.5 acres on a golf course he owns overlooking the Pacific to the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy in California. But he did so only after his efforts to build luxury homes on the property came to naught amid concerns about landslides. Mr. Trump, who had bought the land in 2002 for $27 million, said the property was worth "much more" than $25 million when he gave it to the land conservancy. "Enjoy it for infinity, I guess," he said, while pledging to make annual contributions to the conservancy to monitor the site.

A similar thing happened closer to home last decade. Back in 2006, Mr. Trump donated to the state a plot of land about 50 miles north of Manhattan after he dropped efforts to build a golf course in the face of environmental restrictions and permitting requirements. Mr. Trump claimed the 436-acre parcel was worth $100 million at the time he sought to develop it. In 2010, budget constraints forced Albany to close Donald J. Trump State Park and Mr. Trump at the time said he would take the land back. State officials said he couldn't and the park remains closed, though signs evidently remain on the Taconic Parkway directing travelers to it.

A Trump Organization spokeswoman wouldn't elaborate on the lands donated by Mr. Trump or identify which others he has donated. The land gifts are of interest because they appear to be the primary way Mr. Trump donates his wealth. His foundation gives out relatively small sums of cash.

The Donald J. Trump Foundation had $1.4 million in assets and disbursed $913,000 in cash to various nonprofits in 2013, according to forms filed with the Internal Revenue Service. For what it's worth, most New Yorkers with the sort of wealth Mr. Trump claims to possess tend to donate much more of their money.

For example, hedge-fund manager John Paulson is estimated by Forbes to have an $11 billion fortune—about $1 billion more than Mr. Trump recently said he has. Mr. Paulson's foundation gave out $75 million in 2013, when it reported $633 million in assets. On Thursday, Mr. Paulson gave $8.5 million to Success Academy, Eva Moskowitz's charter school network, and in June he donated $400 million to Harvard.

Leonard Lauder's fortune, pegged at $9.7 billion by Forbes, is a hair less than Mr. Trump's proclaimed net worth. Mr. Lauder is president of the Lauder Foundation, which gave out $20 million through November 2013.

Jerry Speyer, a New York real estate mogul whose $4 billion fortune allegedly pales in comparison to Mr. Trump's, presides over a foundation that donated more than $3 million during the year ended Sept. 30, 2014....

Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Donald Trump declares a lot of things that aren't true.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

Trump will not release his tax returns because everyone will see that he's a cheapskate.

That is California and land overlooking the Pacific is prone to landslides - we have all seen film of houses in California that slid down cliffs.  Certainly he would have built houses there with that view if he could have on solid ground.  The Bible verse about building on sand or rock applies here.  :o)

I am watching CNN and they showed clips from what he said at a rally in Conn. yesterday.  He is insane:
"You better elect me or I'll never speak to you again.  I'll never forgive you Conn."
He also said he is running against a crooked media.

Note all of Conn. is now under his king/dictator warning.  If he were to win overall but not get the state of Conn., what kind of reprisal/punishment would he give Conn.?  He never forgets and keeps "punishing" for years anyone who dares oppose him.  He will take note of any state he doesn't win, and they will be punished over and over in any way he can do that.  Their House and Senate representatives will be ignored or worse.  If such a state has an emergency (weather related or otherwise), they won't get help from him.  His thinking will be, "Let the citizens of that "rogue" state wallow in their misery - they deserve it."

There was a British woman reporter/writer (beautiful woman) who came to the states to write about him and he made sexual advances to her and she turned him down, and for 20 years he sent nasty messages to her, saying she was a second rate reporter and he hears her career is in trouble, wrote those kinds of messages over and over for all those years, until she told him if he didn't stop, she would get an attorney to stop him.  Only then did he quit.

@Victoria 33
The Trump candidacy is playing out as predicted. He was given loads of free press at the expense of the rest of the field. It was a no-brainer that they would turn on him after he got the nomination. I thought the GOP would come to its senses at the convention and nominate someone else. All of this lends credence to this disastrous year being a YUUUUGE scam pulled on the voters that was orchestrated with the corrupt Clintons and the GOPe. We are indeed in a post-Constitutional Union ruled by corrupt oligarchs that are not held accountable for their actions.
Principles matter. Words matter.

Yep.

Of course, this *IS* exactly what his supporters want.  (Considering that nary a critical word is ever spoken by them against Trump.)

Trump Foundation Donated to LGBT Group that Promotes Homosexuality to Kindergartners

https://www.conservativereview.com/commentary/2016/03/trump-donated-to-glsen#sthash.w2IFwYlN.dpuf

I did find however, that that donation to GLSEN along with many others to other LGBT groups was a result of his reality show The Apprentice.  He’d tell various contestants that he would make a “personal” donation to their charity for winning a challenge, but what he was actually doing was donating other people’s money through the Trump Foundation.

But still IMO very poor judgement on his part. I can’t see how anyone who claims to be a “conservative:” or a “good” Christian would donate money to GLSEN. I would think that Trump might have vetted some of the so called charities of some of The Apprentice contestants and either had them pick another not so controversial one like GLSEN or not volunteered to donate money to them through his foundation.

While he criticizes and rightly so, The Clinton Foundation, his side of the street isn’t so clean either.   A lot of the donations made by the Trump Foundation are tied to either garnering influence or for the purpose of self-promotion.
