  • All deserve a trial if accused
What an error, if folks don't know, this woman was killed during a police officers' training exercise.

They accidentally shot her with a live round in a "shoot/no-shoot"drill. As if the police don't have enough problems for something like this to happen.

Update: Punta Gorda shocked by woman killed in police academy drill, offers grief counseling

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — The city is providing grief counseling to anyone in the community regarding the death of a local woman who was accidentally shot by an officer Tuesday evening.

In a press conference Wednesday morning, city officials said they acknowledge the effect the death has on all police members as well as every member of the community.

"Last night, it was a priority to involve our police department chaplain to provide assistance and comfort," said City Manager Howard Kunik.

"We want to express our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Mary Knowlton. We are shocked by this horrific accident, and are grieving deeply over Mary's passing.”

Punta Gorda police say an officer accidentally shot a Knowlton, 73, to death during a citizens academy "shoot/don't shoot" exercise.

How is it an ACCIDENT, when an officer is using LIVE rounds, in a DRILL in proximity to civilians ??

Seems like a badly planned event, to say the least.

A big part of problems like this, is they answer to nobody. There is no "higher authority" to approve/disapprove of such badly planned matters.
