Former CIA Officer Evan McMullin to Launch Independent Presidential Bid

Evan McMullin, a former CIA counterterrorism operative, will run for president as a third-party conservative alternative to Donald Trump, the group backing the candidate told ABC News today.

The group, Better for America, has been working for months on trying to select a candidate and get on ballots throughout the country. In some states, like Texas, they will likely have to sue to get on the ballot. It's an extreme uphill climb, but they are confident McMullin, 40, can act as a disruptor who they hope can peel off some red states in a race where some Republicans are still resistant to Donald Trump.

I looked him up, and it turns out his is a pretty private guy.
Looks like it may be difficult for the MSM to attack him on much (not that they won't try).

On Sept. 11, 2001, he was in training at CIA Headquarters in Langley, Virginia. Once he left the CIA in 2011, McMullin went to work for Goldman Sachs in the San Francisco Bay Area and in 2013 became a senior adviser on national security issues for the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and later the chief policy director of the House Republican Conference.

Neither of those things automatically disqualify him in my mind, but you can bet your sweet bippy they will come up in any talking points.

It's good news, but I think we need to be realistic.  This is already August and he doesn't have a whole lot of time.  I don't know what his financial situation is, but the Libertarian Party and the Constitution Party still haven't qualified in all 50 states and they've been trying a heck of a lot longer.  Does he even have a ground game to get things going?  He's a former CIA operative so I doubt there's going to be a whole lot of information available on him.

Impressive resume and very Conservative (and pretty rational too).

It is along shot, but if you get enough third party split to prevent either major party from hitting 270 electoral votes and it goes to the House, someone like this may be seen as a rational alternative.

I haven't looked at TOS, but when I left FR during the Romney Ryan campaign bashing Mormons was happily encouraged by JR.  Bet its happening again now that McMullin is an option.

We have two former and very successful GOP governors running on the Libertarian ticket.   IMO that's where opinion leaders fed up with Trumpism need to coalesce their support around.
