We are free....it's just that many of the people we choose to govern us are dolts or petty fascists. Not being free means you can't leave a bad situation. We can certainly do that. When the gov. says you cannot leave the country and enforces it at the point of a gun, then you are not free.
The Founders would disagree with that assessment.
They asserted that a 3% tax on tea and a blockade to force Colonists to buy tea the Crown had financial interest in, was not being free.
They asserted that taxation without representation was not being free.
They asserted that being ignored by their government for redress of grievances being imposed by the crown was not being free.
We suffer far more meddlesome tyranny than they ever did.
Today the government has forced us to buy healthcare insurance they regulated and have a financial interest in.
Our government holds us in contempt, exempts themselves from laws they impose on the rest of us and work to undermine our representation via career politicians and lobbying groups.
We cannot do as we wish with our own property, or we risk agents of the federal government to impose policy by force with guns put to your head.
We cannot buy or sell without the stamp of approval and a cut of the profits from the Beast at Mordor on the Potomac.
Shall I go on and list all the evidence that more than illustrates that we are not free?
Or is it in your estimation that until we are in camps behind razor wire that we can finally state we are not free?
