NAACP Furious Over “White Lives Matter” Shirts, Indifferent To “Kill Whitey” Shirts

There’s a bit of a racial controversy brewing in Ocean City, MD that actually has nothing to do with race. Before we get into it, let me just say it involves a couple of establishments selling t-shirts. One reads “White Lives Matter” and the other “Kill Whitey.” Try to guess which one the NAACP is freaking out over. Okay, maybe it’s not much of a game; I gave it away with the headline.
Without further ado, this is all about fish, and more specifically the white marlin. The White Marlin Marina in Ocean City is an advocate for white marlin conservation and supports catch-and-release fishing. To push this message, they are selling a t-shirt that reads: “White Lives Matter.” Also on the shirt is an upside down marlin flag, which signifies catching and releasing the fish.
Meanwhile, down the boardwalk, Swagger Fishing, which promotes non-release marlin fishing, is selling a t-shirt that reads: “Kill Whitey.”
