The lack of chivalry in men these days is because of abortion, imo. When a woman can kill her young, and the responsible man doesn't [even] have the heart to help her, it all goes downhill at a quick speed. Even men not involved with impregnating should help to some degree, but by and large, they do not either.
Not so much.
More like 'the pill', but let me explain.
There was a combination of factors which made chivalry undesirable or dangerous for a young man, and part of that was the whole in-your-face bra-burning (and man-hating) womyn's lib movement.
Simple courtesies were the first attacked, but even more, not only was a male's intervention in an apparent problem unwanted, but bitterly resented, and often repulsed by the very person whose honor he had set out to defend. At the least, the guy was in for significant embarrassment, at worst, in physical peril as she and whoever was with her turned on him.
Cheap, widely available contraceptives put the first leg in place for the hook up culture, the other two being the acceptability of lowered morals (Hippie "free love" movement) and, finally, the vastly increased ability to communicate/advertise the desire to 'mate' without commitment via computer and phone.
When women stopped acting like ladies, (though not all did, but a viciously vocal enough contingent), Chivalry went out the window for most guys. Why risk vicious excoriation or worse to defend an honor so many had willingly discarded?
