Ex-Reagan Aide Likens Trump to FDR

By: Bill Hoffmann

A one-time aide to President Ronald Reagan says Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has the traits of a "conservative" Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

"Without doubt the Forgotten Man is a centerpiece of the Trump campaign and would most assuredly be the focus of a Trump presidency," Jeffery Lord, an associate political director under the nation's 40th president, writes in American Spectator.

"Which is another way of saying that Donald Trump may in fact turn out to be not another Reagan — but the conservative version of Franklin D. Roosevelt."

Roosevelt, a Democrat, served as president from 1933 to 1945 and led the nation through the Great Depression with his "New Deal," a series of social programs that helped stabilize the economy and create new jobs.

"The GOP is in the process of discovering that with the nomination of Donald Trump — to borrow from FDR's famous theme song — ‘Happy Days Are Here Again,''' says Lord, who is a contributing editor at the Spectator.

First off the word "conservative" doesn't belong there.

FDR and conservative are an oxymoron.

More accurately, Trump may turn out to be the next republican FDR.

Here is the entire incoherent piece....

Try to make heads or tails of what the hell Lord is talking about. As a matter of fact, it is an argument for why Pence should be President and not Donny.

 :huh?:

I guess it could be worse, he could have compared him to the civil rights traits of Woodrow Wilson or the religious liberty traits of James Buchanan.

I've exchanged some friendly emails with Jeff Lord in the past, and he used to make good sense.  Not sure what happened to him with Trump, but he's gone nuts.   *hmmmm*

Conservative???
let's look at that shall we, a Conservative FDR. Okay FDR was a socialist so if you take socialism and Conservatism and put them together, they neutralize each other so what you are left with is a null, neutral, nada, nothing. So we can cut right to the chase and see that what he said is actually "Trump is a nothing". I have no disagreements with that.

Well, the Italian economics professor at Harvard Gaetano Salvemini pointed out the similarity between Mussolini and FDR in crushing of laissez-faire, support of tariffs, etc.

And Mussolini himself said in a New York Times interview, "America appropriated one of the Fascist principles when the new regime delegated more power to the executive head of the Government." (NYT; September 16, 1934)

FDR's Forgotten Man was a calculated plan to appeal to disparate groups by promising everything, while actually delivering nothing.  DT is so easily distracted that it's hard to believe a word out of his mouth.
His brilliant mind is a figment of his imagination.   FDR never exhibited such weakness of the mind.
He was a con man thru and thru but not insane, as is DT.

Timber, if you read Amity Shlaes, the Forgotten Man you will why Lord thinks DT is using that scheme.
Lord uses the word conservative as a sop to excuse his support of DT.   Seems not too many have the courage to speak the truth about DT.  He's vile, yes, but exhibiting mental instability as well.

Except that Roosevelt actually did care for the "forgotten man".
