Quite right. Conservatism is a philosophy; Trumpism is a bizarre combover.

I take this as the most cognizant, most salient point of the post-RNC convention.

Brilliant!
Did you bother to read the answer? Aside from where you people are going to attack us because we are here? Just for disagreeing with you?

Don't the Communists, the Democrats, Socialists, and other assorted totalitarians disagree with you, too? Where is the vitriol reserved for them, or are they your fellow travelers?

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

It is quite stunning. They've built this artificial NeverTrump construct and they worship at its idol...the "Chosen One" Ted Cruz. From that place of central worship, any and all fantasies they can imagine...to include bizarre Nazi and Commie dangers along with Gordian conspiracy theories of political collusion, Yetis, and infiltration of the party by little green aliens.

It's a groupthink morphology that literally has made a fantasy world that only the NeverTrump believers can see...because only they are smart enough, moral enough, and have Ralphie's secret Ovaltine Decoder ring.

Change "Cruz" to "Trump" and you've described Trumpism.

Ignoring the erroneous religious reference for another time, the altar has been constructed to Constitutional Conservatism.  In that Cruz receives our support is a testament to his presence at the altar with us.  It could easily be anyone espousing our values that receive our support, including Trump.

I'm a new refugee from TOS but I don't recall seeing a mission statement for this site stating that it's sole purpose in existence was for the election of the orange julius and a meeting place for single minded people to engage in a circle jerk.

Could be Louie Gohmert, Could be Mike lee, Could be Ben Sasse but it needs to be a true believer because we will know it when we see it and we will know by his fruits.

And it's not that we support Cruz or any of the fine conservatives you listed, it's that they support us.

So are the Democrats, the Socialists, the Communists--and you aren't attacking them. That's telling.Work on a third party if he gets elected, and likely do the same even if he doesn't.

If this is what the establishment GOP wants, and has modified the rules to protect, then after 40 years of being a Republican and trying to steer the party in the other direction (toward small government, fiscal responsibility, and fundamental morality), I really do not see any relief for me or other principled Conservatives.
That means neither of the current mainstream parties will provide relief and a return to the Constitutional principles of the Founders. We will not have a Republic that way, so other means of restoring the Constitutional limitations and duties of the Federal Government must be sought. I still prefer the ballot box to the final alternative, and knowing it will not happen overnight, but take a lot of hard work to make progress.
That starts with getting people to realize that the current government has taken more of their freedom than they know. Perhaps the American people will reject their birthright, and opt for totalitarianism.

If we die out without gaining ground or passing the torch of Liberty to another generation, so be it, but the attempt must be made.

If we fail, the American people will have embraced the misery they will bring upon themselves.
