Quote
A new Military Times survey of 2,000 troops finds most are deeply unhappy with the major party choices.

......More than 61 percent indicated they are "dissatisfied" or "very dissatisfied" with Trump as the Republican nominee, including 28 percent of those who intend to vote for him. More than 82 percent said the same about Clinton, the Democratic nominee, with 30 percent of those pledging to vote for her voicing displeasure with the choice.

"This is the worst presidential election I have ever seen," said one Air Force master sergeant who responded to the survey. "How in the world could we only have Hillary and Trump as the options?".....

First-Past-the-Post voting and an clueless electorate.

Same polling source said Military was accepting of gay marriage and was anti-bible...

Every military person known to people around here supports Trump and does not want Hilary. Use common sense here, it fails the sniff test.

The poll is spot on

I know several who are firmly neverTrump.  One was even seriously investigating a move to New Zealand after getting out, if Trump wins.

I hear New Zealand is beautiful.  My husband had some family members there.  I don't know much about their politics/government.

They are strict on immigration, but his wife is a physician, so they shouldn't have a problem.

First-Past-the-Post voting and an clueless electorate.

I think maybe an Australian-type ballot would be good, at least for primaries.

I don't hold the politician responsible for getting voted into position.  I hold the voter responsible for that.

That the plurality of GOP primary voters want this POS is a warning sign that the GOP has got to divorce themselves from that crowd in order to survive.

Use common sense here, it fails the sniff test.

And your unsupported claim doesn't?  As others have pointed out, both candidates are worthy of nothing but scorn from the military.

It appears that the feelings the men and women in the Armed Forces have towards these two is also shared by their civilian counterparts
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

To be honest I thought the GOP voters knew better.

I really think this is a reflection of society as a whole- becoming pop culture, social media headline obsessed. You could really see it coming if you looked at, for example, right leaning pages on Facebook where members would post all kinds of celebrity worship and conspiratorial nuttery from oddball sources that a fraction of discernment should have caused one to reject the story. I know of highly intelligent people who now believe in chemtrails and freak out when they see UN vehicle postings.

Then add to that what I think we can call the 'freeper wing' who don't truly want limited government maximizing individual rights, but want their own activist government acting as a hammer to force their beliefs and engineer society in much the same way liberals do- just different issues.

These movements of thought on the right have been building for years and happen to come to a convergence this year when they get their celebrity authoritarian candidate.
