I don't hold the politician responsible for getting voted into position. I hold the voter responsible for that.
That the plurality of GOP primary voters want this POS is a warning sign that the GOP has got to divorce themselves from that crowd in order to survive.
I really think this is a reflection of society as a whole- becoming pop culture, social media headline obsessed. You could really see it coming if you looked at, for example, right leaning pages on Facebook where members would post all kinds of celebrity worship and conspiratorial nuttery from oddball sources that a fraction of discernment should have caused one to reject the story. I know of highly intelligent people who now believe in chemtrails and freak out when they see UN vehicle postings.
Then add to that what I think we can call the 'freeper wing' who don't truly want limited government maximizing individual rights, but want their own activist government acting as a hammer to force their beliefs and engineer society in much the same way liberals do- just different issues.
These movements of thought on the right have been building for years and happen to come to a convergence this year when they get their celebrity authoritarian candidate.
