Incirlik airspace reopened; Turkish base commander detained

 STUTTGART, Germany — U.S. warplanes involved in the fight against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria renewed their mission at Incirlik Air Base Sunday afternoon after Turkey agreed to once again open airspace that was closed Saturday following a failed coup attempt, the Pentagon said.

“After close coordination with our Turkish allies, they have reopened their airspace to military aircraft,” Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said. “As a result, counter-ISIL coalition air operations at all air bases in Turkey have resumed,” he said, using an acronym for the Islamic State group.

Shortly before the announcement of the base reopening the Turkish commander of the base was reported detained in connection with the coup attempt.

Wall Street Journal said the Turkish base commander was arrested.

I suppose if some of those helicopters took off from the base or other assets used, the Turks might close things down but it looks like it was temporary.

Erdogan has used this pretext to arrest everyone not loyal to him. 36% of the judges in that country have been removed from their posts, 5 buses of student from Military High School were arrested, he is cracking down on all opposition.
