 Donald Trump's reluctant attack dog

In a rare clip from his conservative talk radio show and elsewhere, Mike Pence has shied away from personal attacks on the Clintons.

INDIANAPOLIS – In his first remarks Saturday upon joining the 2016 ticket, Mike Pence hit the obligatory anti-Hillary Clinton notes, questioning her plans to expand Obamacare, shut down coal mining and declaring that she “should never be president of the United States of America.”

But it was Donald Trump who made the strongest and sharpest case against the presumptive Democratic nominee, and he was the only one on the New York stage to use the “Crooked Hillary” mantra.

It was no coincidence. As their new partnership lifts off, there are signs pointing to the rare ticket where the presidential nominee plays the attack dog role.

When it comes to the Clintons, Mike Pence has often been a reluctant aggressor. He’s heaped praise on Hillary Clinton in the past, opining on national television about the historic nature of her White House run and referring to her “one of the most admired, not only women, but public people in America.”

Pence's value to the ticket is subtle.  It helps project that Trump is serious.  It shores up Trump's support with social conservatives.

Pence would be most valuable as the anti-Trump - probably why Trump had last minute doubts; he'd rather do the all-bully thing with Christie.   Trump's problem is that he's unstable and dangerous.  Pence's value is to serve as a contrast to that.

He's gotta be Trump's beard.

Well said...why we have to talk about "Beards"...though.

What a devolution of  sane thought in the human ..I.E. Conservative sphere.
