ENCINITAS, Calif. — Two men apparently fell from a cliff above a beach near San Diego on Wednesday while they were playing Pokémon Go, according to KSWB.

The men were playing the game in Encinitas when they fell more than 75 feet to the beach below. According to officers, the men got distracted while trying to catch Pokémon.

Crews at the scene used a rope to rescue one of the men. Neither man was seriously injured.

It was released on July 7 and has been downloaded over 10 million times to Android and Apple devices.

Players capture the virtual creatures and can amass a collection and train them to battle Pokémon held by other players.

I played golf today and didn't fall off any cliffs.   Didn't fall in any ponds or drive into any trees.   But then I have no clue what a Pokemon is.    I did shoot 76 though :)

a lady stopped her car in the middle of a very busy road a couple cars ahead of me at lunch today and jumped out to get one, almost causnig an accident, but she was oblivious.

It really is the perfect game for potential Darwin award winners.  I understand they tend to trespass on private property,  to, as if that won't cause any problems.

I was reading comments on some websites from some people who basically said, "so what?" Their argument was that people were outside having fun, and anybody who laughed at the players who fell off the cliff were just stodgy, old people who didn't know what fun was.
Apparently, if you fall off a cliff playing a video game, it's all just good, clean fun....instead of, you know, doing something moronic.

The argument that they're out getting exercise is beyond absurd. Can they not do that without their faces glued to smartphones (as they walk into traffic or trespass onto private property)?

What the hell has happened to the youth and that includes many Millennials. Gone are the ways we use to entertain ourselves during summer vacation, rope swings over a river, fishing, snipe hunts, hide-n-seek, tree houses, bowling, bikes, BB guns, playing army, model rockets, plastic models,  - I could go on and on.   

Whoever said "Youth is wasted on the young" had to be talking about today's young.

I will admit, it does seem better though than people just sitting staring at their phones. They are getting out, walking around, and actually socializing face to face. Yea, there are some idiots, but there are idiots doing the same things playing other phone games now.

I personally think that this is a fascinating cultural phenomenon.  I happen to know a lot of young people who are really enjoying this game.  It is getting them out and about and they are even meeting new people who play the game.   Idiots are going to be idiots, like falling off of cliffs and rude people will continue to be rude when visiting museum's where some respect should be shown. (Both stories reported related to this game), whether they are playing the game or not. 
There are plenty of good stories I have heard for example, animal shelters suggesting people come by and volunteer to walk dogs while they are out capturing pokemon's.  It is a game that is making people smile, so it's ok with me.

Yeah, I guess getting a little exercise is not a bad thing...but how long do you think these people will continue playing the game? Eventually they're going to get bored with capturing ...uh...the ...uh monsters. What then?
 I remember the video game crazes of the 80s when Pac-man and other games were real popular. Eventually, all or most of the people who played them incessantly got bored and never played them again. I predict the same think for the Pokemon craze.

I have never played prairie pool myself, but I got a kick out of that!
