Hillary Clinton’s campaign is vetting retired 4-star Navy Adm. James G. Stavridis for vice president, according to The New York Times.
The Times reports that the likely Democratic presidential nominee’s camp has always considered someone with military experience for her vice-president short list.
Stavridis is the dean of the Fletcher School at Tufts University, and he was NATO’s supreme allied commander for four years. During that term, he oversaw operations in Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, the Balkans, and piracy off the coast of Africa, according to the Times’ sources.
In 2012, the Pentagon investigated him over travel and expenses, including trips he took with his family. Fox News reported that the Pentagon’s Inspector General concluded that he did not misuse his office. The report said Stavridis’ recordkeeping issues “reflect poor attention to administrative detail by the office.”
Donald Trump is reportedly also considering someone with military background, and is considering retired Lt. General Michael Flynn. He called Flynn a “patriot” during a Times

In June, Stavridis spoke to Bloomberg Surveillance about the Middle East. “Buckle up. You’re not going to see peace in the Middle East for a decade,” he said.
