Larry the cat, chief mouser at 10 Downing Street is staying to catch more mice under the new PM.

Titbits for the curious:

 - Larry's predecessor was called Humphrey as Maggie's favorite TV show was "Yes Minister."
 - When the IRA launched the mortar attack on 10 Downing Street, the rounds hit the garden where Humphrey was wont to prowl and sunbathe, leading to one very frightened cat and a police officer badly clawed in the line of duty (All UK cats have claws, as declawing is a prison offence).
 - Sybil doesn't usually count as a Number 10 cat, as she lived at Number 11. Cherie Blair is violently allergic to cats.

Ah .... they're not mice. All of Whitehall is build on a swamp, with Westminster Abbey and Palace on an island of rock. Lots of drains, tunnels, abandoned and half filled in foundations .... you get rats. London sewer rats, a special breed. About as long as your forearm, not counting the tail. They are the very good reason no one sleeps rough around Whitehall. Not the cops giving hassle, it's the waking up missing toes, fingers, and noses that is off putting.
