4 July 2016 – The head of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) today hailed as “a major breakthrough” a recent announcement by Canada, Mexico and the United States that they will take sweeping action to achieve 50 per cent clean power generation by 2025 and cooperate on reducing disaster risk.

the three countries aim to phase out inefficient fossil fuel subsidies by 2020, reduce black carbon and prohibit the use of high-global warming hydrofluorocarbons.
