New Standards Weeding Out Both Male and Female Marine Combat Hopefuls

Associated Press | Jun 21, 2016 | by Lolita C. Baldor

WASHINGTON — New physical standards established so women can compete for combat posts in the Marine Corps have weeded out many of the female hopefuls. But they're also disqualifying some men, according to data obtained by The Associated Press.

In the last five months, 6 out of 7 female recruits — and 40 out of about 1,500 male recruits — failed to pass the new regimen of pull-ups, ammunition-can lifts, a 3-mile run and combat maneuvers required to move on in training for combat jobs, according to the data.

The tests, taken about 45 days into basic training, force recruits who fail into other, less physically demanding Marine jobs. And that, the Marine commandant says, is making the Corps stronger.

The results underscore the difficulties for women. Nearly 86 percent of the women failed the tests, compared to less than 3 percent of the men.
Reality is being sexist again.
“The way I see it, every time a man gets up in the morning he starts his life over. Sure, the bills are there to pay, and the job is there to do, but you don't have to stay in a pattern. You can always start over, saddle a fresh horse and take another trail.” ― Louis L'Amour

So much for the motto, "Every Marine a rifleman".   There ain't a more demanding job than combat arms, and if a Marine cannot physically perform, he or she is not a Marine.  The attitude that the Commandant just displayed in that quote, is the end of the Marines.  Once the Marines are dumbed down to Army levels, the missions that the Marines can successfully achieve will be no different than the Army, thus ending justification for the Corp.

I guarantee that within the next 10 years, Congress will discover that there's no reason to maintain a separate Corps.

They'll start integrating the Marine Corps into the Army, probably as as separate specialty, like Rangers or Green Berets, and then the Marine Corps will be no more.  10 years - hit the stop watch.  And, the Marines did it to themselves.   Senior officers should have very publicly fallen on their swords, ended their careers, and put the nation on notice to what Obama is doing.  I would have.  Since they did not, the Corps will die a quiet, bureaucratic death of 1000 cuts.

I hope to God that the next Constitutional President, in 4, 8, or maybe 50 years from now, orders the Marines and other services to revert to 1945 entrance and basic training standards, and let chips (or chippettes) fall where they may.
