Matt LeBlanc is allegedly planning to quit Top Gear if his co-host Chris Evans is not removed from the team first, sources have claimed.

The American presenter, 48, is said to be concerned about Evans’s rudeness towards other members of the team, with some suggesting he also is frustrating to film with.

It allegedly comes just months ahead of the start of filming for the second series, which is due to begin in September.

The rumours also emerged as the show’s bosses face a rapidly declining audience, with just 2.34 million people tuning into last week’s episode. The lowest audience posted by the show's former team, led by Jeremy Clarkson, was 2.36 million in June 2003.

A source told the Sun on Sunday: “The team does not gel and the atmosphere between the presenters is frosty.”

They added: “Matt’s indicated he won’t continue on any further series if Chris remains. He is far from the only one who is not happy.”

The BBC told The Telegraph it would not be commenting on the claims. A spokesman for LeBlanc told the Sun nothing had been “discussed or decided”.

It is not the first time rumours have circulated about the duo’s relationship. The show, which launched again at the end of May following the removal of Clarkson and his team over a "fracas" with a producer, has been hit with a series of allegations.

At the end of last year, Lisa Clark, its executive producer, quit amid claims about Evans’s tyrannical manner, with one source at the time alleging the presenter thought he could “trample over everyone”. The BBC vehemently denied any bullying claims.

The show's team was also accused of disrespecting those who fought in the First World War after LeBlanc was pictured performing “doughnuts” around the Cenotaph in London.

Evans and LeBlanc were later reported to have fallen out over the stunt. Evans denied the row on Twitter.

The Telegraph has contacted representatives for Evans and LeBlanc for further comment but has not yet received a reply.

Plus Chris Evans as well. It was a mistake to fire Clarkson..

It's like you're always stuck in second gear.

But LeBlanc did appear on the old Top Gear show and holds the record for the fastest track time (Kia Cee'd) in the Stars In A Reasonably Priced Car.

But then Rowan Atkinson (yes, Mr. Bean) comes in at second.

I can't wait for the new show (The Grand Tour) with Clarkson,  Hammond and May) to come out on Amazon.  I tried watching the new Top Gear and gave up after about 10 minutes. It was dreadful.

I am pretty sure it will be available in the US but I think you have to have an Amazon Prime membership. I have Amazon Prime.

Really?  That surprises me.  I loved the UK version with Clarkson, Hammond and May, but granted, I haven’t watched the US version. How is the US version better?

Well Top Gear on History has done away with the studio audience and just do challenges. However, since the Three Brit Stooges is no longer there, it is better..  Granted Top Gear on History does copy some challenges from Top Gear UK..

Why do American networks insist on remaking beloved British shows? They're usually embarrassingly bad...  with a few exceptions, like the Office.

One of my favorite British shows was Coupling, roll on the floor hilarious. They tried to remake it for American audiences with the exact same script and it bombed. I don't think it actually made it through one complete episode (preempted due to some news event and never came back).

US producers, please stay far away from Doctor Who.

They made the show. Now it is just Motorweek with bad jokes and less useful information.

One of my favorite shows was the Inbetweeners, they tried to remake it and they failed. I do know of attempts to make an American version of the IT Crowd and Peep Show and it failed.

  • Cats rule. Dogs drool.
Why they surprised? Chris Evans is a bleep and has been fired from every show he's ever had for the same reason. He's a total prima donna and a control freak.

There's a British show called the Detectorists that is pretty good, about metal detector enthusiasts. It's on Netflix.
